Well, my husband and I bought a new home... and the birds have new homes, too! We got them new cages. For the first time, they won't be in the living/dingroom with us. They are going to have their own room upstairs. We bought one playstand and two hanging cage stands-- only we aren't going to hang cages from them, we are going to hang boings and other cool stuff they can play on. I guess it's better this way because before, we would be in the livingroom until late, and the birds wouldn't be able to fall asleep. This way, they can go upstairs to bed at a reasonable time. I still feel horrible, as if I am sending them into a secluded environment. But they will still get to be downstairs with their playstands/boings. I'm just not used to not having the cages downstairs, but I really think this is for the best. Besides, it's hard having feathers, food, and poop in your livingroom and diningroom all day long. I hope this will work out okay. What do you guys think??

we moved into a house last year where the birds got their own room..........do I like it?? Nope I don't. The next house we get (we are moving to Oregon) the birds are going to stay in the living room, dining room and thats it....LOL....this has been tough for me to not spend so much time with them. I have extra cages but in my situation there is no room for those cages in my current living room. In the next house they will get their own room but it will be for sleeping and their big cages are going in the living room/dining room where they can be out all day if they want....Congratulations on the new house.....

I love having my birds their own room. They have playgyms in the kitchen and the living room. They are out on them much of the day.But when its time for bed...they can go to their room and I don't have to wory about cage covers or the noise bothering them.Close the blinds and shut the door.
We like to have parties quite often. We do poker parties and bon fire parties when the weather is warm.Every other weekend or so there are people here.Dodger is fine with lots of people...my macaws however have issues and get very nervous when people are over. With their own room...I can remove them from the situation situation and they remain calm.
I recently put a lock on their door...to make sure noone sticks fingers in the cage wacko.gif Because the birds can and will bite.
Having a seperate bird room has been GREAT for us.
I also think it gets them more out-of-cage time then they had before...maybe because of the guilt you mentioned...but they spend darn near from morning until bedtime out.

I think I'm jealous! I'd love to have room enough to give my birds their own room. Right now they share my sewing area and it's tough sometimes to keep it tidy and nice. Hooray for you guys!

That sounds neat. If I had more than one that would probably be the best bet. I do like having the birdie in my bedroom, though- she's really good about not waking me up early and she likes to cluck at me as we're going to bed. wub.gif

I tell people she's my second mother, though. I don't cover usually, and if I forget the time and am up really late she starts screaming at me. 'Bed, now!' (in squawks)... '5 more minutes, I must finish this thread!' laugh.gif
