Full Version: Holding Food With His Foot

My sisters quaker stands on one foot and holds toys/food with his other foot and checks them out/or eats that way. I have only seen Julian use his foot twice and never longer then a second. Is this something that takes time to learn? Is this an age thing? Just wondering.

hmmm, must not be an age thing because my quaker is less than 3 months old and he eats his pellets with his feet!

Levi is 12 weeks and uses his feet for mainly playing with toys - he doesnt use his feet much to eat.

Kiwi is 7 and he uses his foot sometimes and sometimes NOT. They are funny ducks!

For Kermit, it depends on the size and consistency of the food which determines if he holds it in his foot to eat it.

I think it's just a personal preference, and yeah size may play a role as well. I have some who use feet all the time and some who rarely do.

It probably is a combination of preference as well as age (feeling comfortable balancing with one foot takes some time and talent as I have tried eating while standing on one foot dont ask tongue.gif)

I think the best one I have adept at one footedness is my U2 who can unscrew a bolt with his foot in seconds.

Julian will rest while standing on one foot. He eats his avi-cakes with pecks instead of holding them or even help holding them in place. I just got him Lafeber's Nutri-Berries with Bell Peppers. I gave him one and he seems like them but the problem comes from trying to peck at them and they roll around or drop on the floor. I was just hoping that maybe he would start using his foot to hold on to his food. I guess I am just in a hurry for him to do things and need to learn to slow down and let him do things on his own time.

Thanks Stephanie and Julian.
