Gabby bit my chin the other day..I think I got her up too early and she wasn't a happy bird..When I asked for kisses, she grabbed hold of my chin..WOW!!! did it ever hurt??? and since I've never been bit that hard, I didn't think to put ice on it..SO now I have a "shiner" on my chin..black and blue about an inch long...She didn't do it to be mean..I think her being 2 yrs old now, has something to do with it, and I think she wasn't ready to get up...I won't be offering my chin for kisses for a while...good thing it wasn't my lip...
I am on an African Grey forum and others were talking about their fids biting at this time, and I had to brag about Gabby not biting me..WHAM!!! a couple of days later she bit me HARD...If I had pushed into the bite, she would have taken a chunck out of my chin...Thankfully there's just an upside down V and black and blue mark....

Have y'all noticed your birds being more nippy right now?

Well Maya has been having her daily trysts with her ladder. She has also been a tad cage territorial lately. Just won't come out, and man, don't try and go in there to get her out or she'll nail ya good. Once she's out she's fine.

Other than that everyone seems to have their usual disposition.

Sorry your Gabby girl got you. She should be less hormonal in a few weeks.
BradysMama
Yep! Brady before spring hit had bit me once out of cage aggression (which i nipped in the butt)..here i'm thinking..he's such a good bird...never bites. Then spring hits and he's given me a couple good ones. The first one really threw me cause like I said..he only did it once in the beginning. I've dug into em though and told him no biting..but then again it's been on the hand. Just this afternoon..he was on his play gym..and decides to fly off and try to chew some wires on the playstation 2 that I was playing and the hubby was watching me play. So he jumps up and gets him..and Brady chomped him pretty good. Big baby doesn't dig into it ..just plops him on his gym..whining how he bit me. I told him ..ya gotta dig into it and teach him not to. Then he tells me..why do "I" gotta jump up and get "your" bird?? That ticked me off. I love how him and my daughter (she's only 9..least she's got alittle of an excuse) ..seem to love the animals when they're playing with em..when they're being cute and talking and oh what fun...but the minute one of em bite..or make a mess..destroy something...it's "my" animal! I told em both..you don't want to take the good with the bad..help out with taking care of em then you can't play with em either! Ugh...makes me so mad!!
Quakermom
everyone has a good bite story, my hubby has a few on his back and was bitten by Miya on the tummy..lol I was nipped by paulie and romeo. it does hurt like heck, but hey you have to deal with it. my hubby has a horror story- he was bitten in the lip by a seagull 10 years ago..ouch!!!
Ruthie
LOL...sorry about the bite. Reminds me of what I told my hubby today as he was letting Georgie kiss his nose. "One of these days she's going to get all hormonal on you and bite your nose."

My grey bites when strangers are around. I think his is a nervous bite.

Oooh Gabby Girl, you hurt mommy...Now what are you going to do to make it up to her....Bad girl... blush.gif

Hope it mends soon Rebecca...And I'm quite sure it hurt...Makes me hurt to think about it....Sorry Girl.........
Marcos
Sorry about that Rebecca.....

Heck I don't know how I would respond if Maxie did that to me. And here I am, with Maxie, he is slightly over a year old, (14 months) and I keep telling everyone that he has never bitten me yet. That is quite obviously going to change ....some day....right out of the green (or blue).

No matter how hard you try to understand it, I have to think it takes something "away" from the relationship you had. People keep talking about us humans doing something that will break the bond with their parrot. Has anyone thought about how when their parrot does something like this, that it kind of makes us humans be a bit more distrustfull of them? Oh yea.....I know the story..."their parrots". True, but still, something is lost when the bird does this, don't ya think? By your own admission, you're not going to be putting your chin in their face any more.

Take care Rebecca.....

You're right, Marcos....it did take something out of the relationship, especially that day, it was rather quiet around my house..I wasn't talking to her for a while....my chin AND my feelings were hurt..yep, don't trust her nearly as much...Yesterday I let her sleep until after 10am..that'll show her..LOL!!! that was 12 hours...when she got up, she was making kissing sounds and saying, "Give momma sugar." I'm like I DON'T THINK SO...no more kisses, at least not just yet..LOL!! gotta build that trust back up...I never had thought about the reverse being true...the bird doing something that puts a damper on the relationship...I know Gabby didn't do it to be mean, but it still hurt like the dickens....OUCH!!! and I don't trust her..it's like "my baby's all grown up." I'm hoping this ends soon...
Gabby has been tearing into her stuffed animals too..I mean, like she's mad at them..there's one hanging on her cage and it sounds like she's screaming at it..lying on her back shaking it back and forth...I guess her hormones are SKY high right now...I have a hanging large toy, that hangs on her toy holder on her play top and she gets upside down on her toy holder and pulls that toy all over, at the same time screaming like she had a toe caught or something..Do you know the number of times we've jumped up to rescue her and she turns over and looks at us like, "WHAAATTTTT?????" "I'm just playing quietly"...
But Marcos, you have a very good point...NOT putting my chin back up there to be bitten...
And don't brag on NOT being bitten...watch his body language..yeah, right..it happened SO fast, I didn't see any body language but mine..running from her..LOL!!!

Sorry about the bite...welcome to the terrible twos. smile.gif So, how fast can you cover a quarter mile? wink.gif
Joysmom
LOL!!! about 60 seconds!!!
Marcos
Here is the good new for me.....supposedly....When you have only one bird that is well socialized, the terrible twos almost go unnoticed. Knowing how close Maxie and I have, and how much time we spend together at home, I would venture to say, I will not have a problem. I may be wrong....but I'll trust Q parrot expert Mattie Sue Athan in this regard.
Joysmom
Gabby is my only bird and she's pretty socialized and WHAM!!!! a permanent unside down V tattoe..LOL!!!

So, Marcos, don't let your guard down....How old is Maxie?

Rebecca
Marcos
Maxie is a bit over 14 months old.

If he does that to me.................He better hope that ............nevermind.....nevermind.
Ruthie
LOL....what?

I think I would threaten to make quaker parrot pot pie. wink.gif
