First off i want to say that I do not own a QP,,which is what has prompted me to ask this question. I read a lot about the hormonal issues that the parronts on this forum have. Usually all pertaining to their qps even though i know there are some that have other species as well. My question being" do qps display more of these hormonal attributes more so than other species?" I do not seem to have this stuff going on with my birds. I have a CAG, a male eclectus,2 caiques,a parrotlet and a GCC. So is it just worse in your little green guys? Is this a thing with them? Just curious.

well to tell you the truth each bird is different, sometimes birds display alot of these attributes. and sometimes alittle bit. Ive had a cherry headed conure(female), an eclectus (male) and now a green cheek conure (?) My little QP turned three years. Before him i had another QP and he wasnt as bad at all. My first QP was the same, not as hormonal. Like i said it depends on the bird. I've hit the lotto with this one, he loves to hump his toys.. geez, but you accept it and keep him in check and move on. dont accept biting or charging. he does that and you put him back in the cage or you give him a shakey off balance and that should help.like teen boys are rough and love to act out. QP's act out just as bad. So you have to roll with it. teach them your boundries and try to give them some time to themselves to blow off some steam..

I am curious: what "hormonal issues" exactly are you talking about?

The fact that they pleasure themselves (I think that is what it's called wink.gif )? The fact that they may want to build a nest and lay eggs and have a stage in which they are a bit "high-strung" because it's normally the time that birds have young ones? (I don't know but I think that goes for all kinds of birds.) The fact that some of our quakers get more light than others? Maybe simply because of geographic location?

I guess only those of us with all sorts of birds might have an idea whether those things are different for quakers because they're all different to start with (like humans). I have two qps and they are very different.

Well actually i didnt mean the pleasuring themselves thing. Mine will do that. Nor the nest building, i think thats neat. I was more wondering about the more severity of the biting or if they bite hard more often. More the hormonal squawking. Even when mine do decide to enjoy themselves with a toy or whatever, they never seem to be be diff with me. And i havent ever noticed any extra springtime yelling. As i said i do not have a qp so i didnt have one first hand to answer those questions for me.. only what i have read.. was just curious if it was a trait of a qp to maybe be a little more aggressive and vocal at this time..I do know that it would vary from bird to bird and obviously species to species. Wasnt meant to be a put down or anything. Thanks for your replys.
