hey everyone. well tomorrows the day.. im so excited...
but also a lil nervous... not sure why.. i just am..
does any one have any last minute advice... ?
i talked to the lady last night, and she said that i am getting a real sweet birdie... she steps to the edge of the cage when the door is opened.. and shes already making alot of different noises...where do i put the newspaper in the cage? on the pull out tray,?? i just realized that i didnt know that... geez.. what else am i not remembering...
QPdad
YAY!! it's getting close!

Yes, for the paper, you just pull out the bottom tray and put it there. I turn the tray upside down and fold the paper over it then turn the paper over and put it in with the folded sides down.

Here is an exerpt from my blog that I think you can identify with:

"The big day finally came on Sunday August 27, 2006. It was time to bring Willie home!! Being a Sunday, the pet shop wouldn't open until noon so I spent the morning intermittently pacing, looking at the clock and rearranging the cage that was soon to finally become occupied. By 11:30, I had concluded that time would simply screech to a halt at 11:59. However, as you might be aware, twelve O'clock did eventually come that day. "

LOL, parront anxiety, I guess. laugh.gif

Yes you put the paper in the pull out tray. I've heard that some people take the grate out for babies for a while as babies tend to spend more time at the bottom first, untile the babies are older and more secure about climbing and staying on perches. However I think that is a preference. I have not done that and Louie never minded it. I think it is more sanitary with the grate in it, that way the bird doesnt walk or eat in the mess he/she creates.

Make sure you change the paper daily and wipe off any poop or food that is on the perches/toys etc. Wash the dishes daily to make sure no bacteria has a chance of growing. Once a week I give the cage a good thourough cleaning.

One thing that I did when I first brought Louie home. When I put him in his cage, I set him next to the food bowl. Just wanted to make sure he knew where the food was. He didn't really eat anything the first day, drank some, but did dig in the next day.

Make sure you've got your camera ready too!! We want see pictures biggrin.gif

oh man, there was something else i wanted to ask, but i just forgot.... maybe if i sit here long enough..... oh yeah, the food thing..im going to be switching her over from the food shes eating now, to the zupreem fruit blend ... the kind shes on now, i'd have to drive either 4 hours to get it, or order it every time.. so i thought i'd just switch... i should do it gradually right? because ive asked the breeder to bring me a bag of what shes already eating... so i just mix the 2 kinds for a while until shes eating nothing but the zupreem?
Seasa
For the first few days, until she is more comfortable, I would just feed her what she is used to and gradually introduce the Zupreem. Personally, I would not use the fruit blend, because I believe all the color additives and sugar in it are not that good for them in the long run. Tha's just my personal opinion though. Zupreem has also an all natural blend and the ingredients look pretty good and I would do that one instead. wink.gif Again, just my opinion.
aroot80
ohhhh, crap.. that blend was the only blend that they had other than another blend for a whole other kind of parrot... the macaws i think... that was my only choice other than what wal mart sells... ?? now im worried.. also, do i need to try to find a baby food, ? shes only just over 2 months, her hatch date was jan 25...
??!!
Seasa
I didn't mean to worry you at all. Many people I know and members here feed the fruit blend with no problems. This is just my personal preference as to what I feel is good based on some personal research I have done. I'm one of those "all natural/organic" nuts. laugh.gif

Where are you located aroot80....

I weaned Harley on to Harrison's bird food which is one of the best and I order it from a place in Georgia for only $6.00/1 lb bag....He has been on it since and is 3 1/2 yrs old.....If you are interested in the name of the place I will be glad to provide the information for you....It is shipped UPS and it is a lot cheaper coming from a dealer like that than ordering directly from the Harrison Company....It is a family owned business.....I order one day and it comes the next day.....

They do, however have a variety of Harrison's to choose from....

I know you are so excited and looking forward to hearing more about your new baby..... smile.gif
Ruthie
I feed the Zupreem Fruit Blend to Georgie. And she's doing great with it. Just remember if you're feeding this to your bird, the poo is going to be a different color. Some people don't like that about the fruit blend because if they are "poo watchers" it throw them off to know if there maybe something wrong with their birdie.

Not me, I can deal with different color poo. smile.gif

I can't believe I'm talking poo.
aroot80
what color is it? does that make it harder to clean up?
Ruthie
No.

It depends on what she eats. Some days, she eats the yellow ones, so her poo is a yellowish color. Other days, she'll eat the purple ones, so her poo is a purplish color. Same with the green, orange, and red.

It's all the same when cleaning. Just a little bit more colorful....lol.
aroot80
oh ok... lol i guess thats fine then.. i was just worried about stains or whatever.

Yay!!! I can feel your excitement! laugh.gif
This is just my opinion too, but I am with Seasa, I prefer to use the natural coloured Hagen Tropican pellets, but the Zupreme is good too, but apparently higher in sugar, but you've got to use what is available to you!

Good Luck tomorrow, try to sleep laugh.gif ... can't wait to see pictures!!! smile.gif
