i just talked to a kind of local pet store.. and they do bird sitting... but i think she said she charges 3.00 a day...
is this right, or did she say 30.00? 30.00 seems kinda high, but 3.00 doesnt seem like enough...

Depending on what kind of bird it is and whether I supply the food and cage or if the owner does or if I go to your house and how many times a day will determine how much I charge...

If people bring small birds Green cheeks with their own cages and food I charge $5.00 Large birds are $7.00 under the same conditions...This includes being handled one on one time and out of cage time etc etc.

If I go to the persons house 1 time a day its $15 twice its $25.00

I have one couple where I go to their house twice and they have very specific instructions...they pay me $50.00 a day. They insisted on that amount even though I would have only charged them $25.00 SO it makes me happy....wink.gif

So you can see that there is a big variation... Make sure you know what they will do for what ever amount you will be paying.

$3.00 seems pretty cheap....but it might not include them being handled etc...

I know of a couple of shops in a bigger city that charge $25.00 you have to pay for 3 days In advance and you have to make reservations 2 weeks in advance and put down a deposit and if you cancel, you only get 1/2 your deposit back...so...

Find out what all it includes and if you want something extra done what it will cost you...

i told her that i wanted one on one time, etc...maybe its just so cheap cause its a small store in a smaller town..
ive found that small town prices are either alot cheaper, or alot more expensive... their birds are very reasonably priced, so maybe thier services are too.
Quincy's Slave
Well I pay $24 a day. That includes Quincy going to his babysitters house, getting lots of out of cage time and cuddles, a handfeeding at bedtime and she supplies all his food and treats. She's a vet tech at his clinic so knows his medical story and his special food requirements.
It's expensive but worth it to me because Quincy loves going there and doesn't seem to want to come home. He has a huge crush on her African Grey which probably helps wub.gif

I just got back from vacation and the place where I boarded Peaz only charged $4 a day. They keep his food and water clean and filled and the cage paper changed as often as necessary. The one other place I considered was going to charge $6 a day, so the rates were somewhat similar, but thats in small town Florida... I'm not sure how much out of cage time they get, but I know he is well cared for there as these people are very knowledgeable concerning birds of all kinds... so $3 is not so much of a stretch.... I would double check and make sure you heard her right though smile.gif

I'm lucky. My friend Angie birdsits my guys for free if I bring them to her house. They have to go in their travel cages, but they're only their a day or so usually and they get a lot of out of cage time. Taz doesn't mind going there, but Jojo...well he's a too. He gets upset if I leave the house and Tim's home. Heck, he gets upset when I move his food bowl. LOL

the breeder i got cricket from charges $5 a day for a short weekend or $3 a day for a whole week. she said she doesn't like charging a lot because she wants "her" birds to come back to her for pet sitting instead of someone who doesn't know how to properly take care of them.

maybe it depends where you live too?

I just got back from a week's vacation and had someone come in to feed all the fids once a day. 8 birds, 2 cats. All she had to do was change food and water in the 5 cages and make sure the cats' bowl was filled for 8 days.

I paid her $100.

No out of cage time for the little monsters because they won't be handled by anyone else, but at least they got fed every day.

Not the IDEAL situation, but they (and ME!) made it thru. smile.gif

They've even almost forgiven me already ... Isis did his step ups this morning without trying to chew my fingers off!

I leave my birds at the pet store I bought them from and they charge me $10.00 a week for both my birds.

My sister in laws sister doesn't work, so when we go on our cruise she's willing to stay here and take care of 11 birds and 3 big dog for probably about 9 days. I'm paying her $300.. She will make sure they get daily out of cage time, wash out food and water bowls twice a day and feed them twice a day. Also change paper. Then let dogs in and out and feed and water them. She's a germ freak so I know she'll do a good job with cage cleaning and bowl cleaning. Plus she likes being here and getting away from her fiance sometimes just to have time alone so it will work out perfectly.
I swear if I get back and they are all in good shape, I'm giving her a $100 bonus!!!!!
