[size=3]Hello My name is Jaye and In about 4 hours my new baby Quacker will be deliverd to my home. I have already named him Corky and he's a hand fed baby. His name is special to me. Twelve years ago a quacker parrot flew into my life literally. I put a add in the paper and no one claimed her. I named her Corky and she was a mean little thing at first. As time went on her and I became pals and I taught her to talk and she talked better then most two year olds. She was bonded to only me and wouldn't let no one else do anything with her. Or come near me if she was on my shoulder. She owned me and made that clear to everyone. She looked at me like I saved her maybe who knows. Well 3 years ago she passed away and it about killed me. I am pretty educated on parrots I used to hand feed all types of baby parrots for a friend of mine for many years until 2 years ago when I diagnosed with MS I had to stop because it got harder to do and I was afraid I would mess up and and start losing babies so I had to stop. Anyway back in December this friend of mine asked me did I want a baby quacker. Her quacker pairs had laid some eggs. I jumped at the chance to be able to start out from scratch with a baby quacker and teach him all the things I taught to Corky Sr. I am so excited about this I am going to do my very best to train Corky Jr to be the best bird I could ever have. Socializing will be my first task because I loved Corky Sr very much, but her being only bonded to me did cause some problems. As soon as she gets here and gets settled down tonight I will take some pictures with my web cam. I also have two 3 year old tiny Chihuahua's thay both have been used to parrots so there wont be no problems. Plus Corky Jr has been used to small dogs because the person that hand fed him has two little dogs also.. So I think the dogs are excited about the new family member because they can sense my own excitement. My friend told me he is already saying his name I kind of knew he would learn that because it took Corky Sr 1 1/2 days to learn to say it. Quackers are so very smart and like I said I am very excited for my baby to be coming home.
Thank you for letting me into your forum I'm looking forward to knowing you all.

smile.gif Welcome Jaye and Corky. You must be so excited in the arrival shortly of your new little baby. I'm so happy for you.It sounds like he will have a very loving home. I know what it's like to come down with an illness. It changes your life and the way you think about things that's for sure. I had breast cancer in 2005 and was worried I coulnd'nt take care of my cat. I had my dad look after her while I was in treatment. I'm fine now. I adopted a 4 yr. old Quaker and love him dearly. I know you will love it on this Forum . Everyone is soooooooooooooooo nice here. smile.gif

Thank you. Back when Corky Sr was still alive I looked for a forum like this but there just wasn't one so I am glad this time around I will have a place to talk about Corky and share with others about him. I find that only Quaker owners can relate to the funny antics these munk parrots can do. If I would say oh Corky Sr rubbed his head on my chin and and said awww momma's baby ( like she did every morning) non quaker owners would just say yeah ok! like it was no big deal and us quaker owners would be over joyed at how she put those words together so perfectly in the situation. As the time goes by I am getting more and more excited I have Corky's cage all set up his play pin is all set up is toys are all hung in his cage and every things is ready for him.
I don't think I forgot anything I hope.
Whats your quakers name? Does he speak? People say the African grays are the best talkers but they didn't know my Corky Sr he had about 50 word vocabulary and could speak 3 to 4 word sentences and he sang "bad birds bad birds whatcha" after the cops song "bad boys".

Thank you so much I am so excited I have to do something. I keep remembering Corky Sr and how much I loved and adored her and miss her and now I am going to get a chance to raise Corky Jr from scratch and have many years with him. I have actaully hand fed about 50 of these kind of birds over the years but because I just hand fed them I tried not to bond with them but now I do not need to worry this baby will be mine. I sure wish I could have hand fed Corky but I knew I couldn't but thats ok he's was in good hands. I do miss hand feeding baby birds but the MS keeps me from doing that.

We have Casey the Quaker and she is five months old. She is just learning to talk but can say many things now, she even plays peekaboo!

Feel free to jump into conversations, give advice or even ask some questions! Everyone here is super friendly and very helpful! smile.gif

Welcome Jaye and Corky Jr. Quakers can be addicting little critters. I can't go anywhere or do anything without thinking about Morgan, who by the way is a non talker. He likes to mimic noises though.
