Hi, my name is Tracey and I have a Quaker, Petey, and hes 17 years old. Yes, had him since he was a baby.. Very funny bird, likes to laugh a lot. I believe my Quaker is a "he" after all these years he has never laid an egg, and I heard when they have blue feathers in the back, its a male. Females supposedly are all green.
Has a very high vocabulary, and talks mainly when he is happy. Very cage aggressive, but, once out of the cage, extremely lovable. Always tells me when someone is coming to the door by squalking real loud. A better watch dog then my dog, LOL.
I was curious, how do you get a picture up? I can't seem to do it...LOL

Welcome to the forum!

Wow... 17 years, your going to be able to offer some great advice!

As for pictures, when you are composing a message you press browse in the "file attachment" and then say "add this attachment" once it is there, then "add into post". The other method, you save your picture into somewhere like photobucket.com and then in the message area click the little tree picture along the menu bar and add the url from photobucket.
... sorry that sounds really confusing when I read it back,

someone else might be able to describe it clearer!

Anywho, Welcome to you and Petey!

Thanks.. your Quaker is soooo cute upside down like that!!
Yes, I have a lot of experience with my quaker. For sure, 17 years is a long time. I feel like sometimes I have a 5 year old kid who never leaves the house!! LOL.... They can be very temperamental. They need a lot of attention too... I tell people who want one, that if you don't have the time, do not get one. They require a lot of attention. And, can live a very long time, like mine.. And hes still going strong...
My quaker also thinks his name is "birdie". He always says "Good birdie".. He doesn't know his name is Petey, either that or he doesn't like it...LOL.....So, My hubby and I just call him birdie now....
All quakers are very different though... Their temperamants are just as moody as humans. However, they make it up with how funny they are!! I have had mine since college, that gives you an idea how old I am!!
I will try the picture thing, I appreciate you telling me how to do it... It makes sense, its whether I can do it or not...
Yeah, if I can help anyone with info on their quaker, I will look out for posts and try... Again, birds in general can be very unpredictable....

Hi Tracey...So glad to have you aboard with us....Hope you enjoy it as much as I have....I have a little green baby...Harley is 3 1/2 years old and he is my sweetie....
Yes, I agree with you, they do require a lot of attention....
If I may ask, what kind of diet do you have Petey on?....Apparently it is agreeing with him....
So you have had him since college days....It's rewarding and I commend you for holding on to your baby during the changes that your life has made....I know some people will get a bird, not realizing that in life comes changes and if bird can't be a part of those changes, well they have to rehome it...That is what I'm talking about...So again, BRAVO to you Tracey.....

Andies Mom,
I have a miniature schnauzer too!! Shes 13... What spoiled animals I have!! Thats why I think they live so long...
Believe it or not, my quaker is very friendly, but I only take him out of his cage once every 2 weeks. I lived in NY my whole life, didn't have time... The birdie even survived 9/11... I think I got very lucky... Very strong bird... 4 weeks ago I moved to the midwest, so, hopefully he will last longer... Yearly visits to the vet help a lot too..I still can't believe how old he is, and going very strong!!
Also, I place him in the living room for noise, and hes use to the loud noises from NY at night. Now that I moved to Kansas City, hes acted up a bit, but, hes getting better... He is the "boss" of my schnauzer though!! LMAO... Wow, everyone is nice here.....
Hi Julie!
The trick to having a quaker live long is a lot of love... I will tell you the truth... There were times I wanted to get rid of him, I have moved 4 times since college, and quakers can be BRUTAL,and moody....... But, I just couldn't get rid of my baby... He makes me smile when I am down, like he knows...
Ok, I will be honest about the diet... Its not great, LOL, but what he loves the most is grilled chicken... And pasta and potatoes.. I feed him everything... He HATES fruit, hates treats, LOVES McDonalds fries...LOL... So, I give him what he will eat cause he actually got anorexic 1 year, and it cost me $1,000 to fix him... That was 10 years ago though..
Like I said though, chicken, and yearly visits to the vet are a MUST!! And, even though I only take him out once every 2 weeks, he seems to be fine with that... They can live to be 40... I will probably put him in my will... Everyone that has met him, has offered to take him if I die before him... Hes great, I got lucky!! And again, he survived the smoke from 9/11....

Welcome Tracey! Birdie/Petey sounds like he is one lucky bird!

To post a picture, Open a 'Post Reply' screen and go down to 'File Attachments' below the reply screen...
Click on 'Browse' ... that should take you to a 'Choose File' screen where you can choose where on your computer your pictures are kept (I am assuming you have digitals saved on your computer)
Choose the photo that you want to post and click on 'Open'
Click on 'Add this Attachment' below the reply screen
This should open a little white box underneath that lists the photo(s) you chose
Put your cursor in the message where you want the picture and click 'Add into Post' and Voila! it SHOULD be in your message
If you have more than one photo to post, you can just choose them one at a time, they will be listed in the little white box, and you post them in your message one at a time by choosing a photo and click 'Add into Post'
I hope I made this as clear as mud

and I hope it works for you
