I had to share something cute with everyone.

Gave Yogi and Raven their beak appetit before heading out to work today.

Got home tonight, and after saying hi to the boys, I went to take the dishes out of the cages. Yogi's beak appetit dish is empty, but is water dish has a whole lot of carrot pieces in it laugh.gif

Raven's beak appetit dish is empty "except" for a whole lot of carrot pieces laugh.gif

So "veggie delite" is a hit except for the carrots rofl.

What a pair of silly fids heheeheh.

Do your qp's like carrots?

The boys won't eat them no matter what I do to disguise them. Brings back memories of when my mom tried to disuise liver so I'd eat it <yuck>.

Kiwi throws his carrots out and then eats everything else. Don't know why he doesn't like them but he never has. I have tried several of the beak apetites(sp) and the birds love them..

***it is a good idea to remove the fresh food from the cage after about 2-3 hrs or sooner****

I have tried carrots.....every which way. Nothing works. Hey, at least you got them eating beak apetit. Maxie will not eat 2 of them.

I tried "nuts for alfredo" and "Calypso spice". That was money down the drain. In fact, I bought the calypso spice at a bird fair and he gave me 2 for one. So I still have an unopened packet.

Deb my quaker Harley wouldn't touch carrots for the longest until one day I was eating a salad and there were some grated carrots in it...I took a few out and rinsed them off real well and gave them to him...Wow, he down them in no time and wanted more...So I discovered he prefers carrots grated... laugh.gif Trying to figure these little guys out sometimes is a pain in the ****....... tongue.gif
Dany hearts Nicodemus
Nicky ADORES his carrots, any which way he can get his little beak on them! You could all just send them to me! happy.gif
Ohana
Pistachio eats carrots, I make her homemade dishes and put mixed veggies in there, she chows down on everything. She really likes veggies that are sweet. hummm, she must get that from her mom.
Danb
Rizzo likes carrots so much he stains his beak orange in his frenzy of eating them!
backer
Bluberry will eat baby carrots raw only if he has seen me eat one and i hold it for him.The veggie i cant ever get him to eat is pea's.He wont eat those in any form.

Willie used to love carrots then all of a sudden, he wouldn't eat them. I still try every now and then but so far, he still won't eat them.

He has a little plastic plate that he gets his "yummies" in on top of his cage. If he doesn't like something, can he just ignore it? - oh no - he picks up the plate of food and throws the whole thing into the floor. wacko.gif
Uncle Zippy
laugh.gif @Willie.

For the most part carrots are a hit with our guys. They prefer them raw, but will eat them cooked as well. Sometimes you just have to find the right shape to peak their interest. Ours prefer carrot sticks to slices or chunks. They like to hold them in their feet. smile.gif
LuvMyHarley1
I'm laughing at Willie too... laugh.gif

And U Z you are right about finding the right shape to peak their interest....I use to give Harley baby carrots, the whole thing because they are so small....He would take one bite and drop it....Now that I find he likes the shape of grated carrots, he could eat a bunch of them...Trying to figure these little guys out is like trying to put a jigsaw puzzle together.... biggrin.gif

Thanks for the tip, but the food isn't sitting around for long periods of time. They boys don't eat a lot of it at once. They have pellets available all day, but only an ice cube sized beak appetit split between the 2 of them in a small dish smile.gif

They eat a little oatmeal with sweet potato, or unsweetened applesauce for breakfast. The beak appetit is lunch, and then a different type of beak appetit for dinner when I get home. These guys eat better than I do laugh.gif

Started giving it to them on my days off, so I know they chow down on it pretty quick (it's the quietest part of the day here..when they are eating heheh).

omg Julie.. thank you so much for posting this!

I had totally given up on the boys eating fresh veggies, but this reminded me of the day I was eating a salad that had grated carrots in it. I had forgotten about that!

Raven and Yogi both liked it.. Broccoli slaw smile.gif

whoohoo.. bless your grated carrots Julie laugh.gif

I will have to pop into the grocery store tomorrow and grab more. I actually liked it too, so the last one didn't go to waste hehe.

Raven the wonder tiel wouldn't eat any of it. Then he saw Yogi chowing down, and that was all it took to change his mind. Can't be left out of anything that lad lol.

neither of them like the bigger chunks of nuts in the "nuts for alfredo" one though. They usually toss those out to the dog laugh.gif

laugh.gif laugh.gif that's hilarious. Sounds like Willie is a bird who knows what he wants, and won't settle for less wink.gif

I'm glad the boys share their's with the dog instead of just flinging the dish. The dog waits patiently in front of the cages, so she'd end up with a concussion if Willie was over for dinner rofl.

Ok.. seems like shredded is definitely the way to go next smile.gif

Sheesh.. if my husband ever realizes how much time and thought goes into the boys mealtimes, he is going to be jealous. If he said can you grate my carrots, I would probably hand him the shredder laugh.gif
Well I mean honestly..it's not like the boys are big enough, or old enough to use a shredder right wink.gif

Kermit won't eat carrots in any form I have tried, but I haven't tried the grated carrots. We put them on our salads, so maybe I will try those instead. Thanks for the tip!
