I have a sun who is 3 years old and dna'd male.
Lately I am seeing this odd behavior where when I walk up to the cage or where ever he is on his stand etc and he hangs upside down and flaps his wings at me rapidly.
I am just wondering if this is some randy signal conures do as opposed to my humping bird toy quaker?

Question though... a bird rescue group here is looking for home for a Sun. How loud is your sun? Are the vocalizations frequent??? I live in a condo with a completely useless (and anal retentive) condo board and incompetant management company... so I have to make sure the Sun wouldn't rock the boat.

I've not seen that behavior in Suns, but I see it all the time in my Tiels. It is their way of protecting their 'nest' aka cage

Jamie I am going to be honest with you the sun might rock the boat. Mine will flock call a couple of times a day once early in the morning (my alarm clock) and once again before bedtime. Its a piercing sound that does go thru even my insulated walls that somebody would probably complain. Is there a way you could foster it for a bit to see if it will work out for you might be another way to go about seeing how the particular sun thats up for adoptions personality is like because there are always exceptions to the rule yet I havent seen a quiet sun yet! The plus side is my sun is such wonderful eye candy and he has adjusted really well to my home and my flock and he just loves being outside of his cage now as opposed to when I brought him home. Every time he leaves his cage he gives me that piercing call and I have to acknowlege that yes I see he is out before he goes about playing and exploring his world. Its almost like he is saying watch me mommy watch me.
My inlaws are planning to visit me soon thats the only thing that concerns me about my sun because I am sure my father in law is going to just hit the ceiling when he hears that call...my husband on the other hand keeps telling me dont worry about it , its the suns house and his folks know how to rent a room at a local hotel if they have issues with him.

Thats interesting hrmmm...but my sun does it on his gym etc and it almost looks like he is showing off but lol its so weird when he does it.

hmm my sun has just turned two so maybe he just isn't old enough to do that yet. I hope someone with more information comes along soon.

He does it with everyone and it isnt consistant. Its just the craziest thing given suns have some pretty wacked antics and body language anyways...he sort of reminds me of a kid trying to make a snow angel when he does it.

I just came across this post....and IMPs to me its as if hes saying "look at me what im doing" lol the attention thing. (Im not saying he dosent get it) Cherub is always doing all sorts of kooky hanging antics so who knows hehe. Hey I saw on UTUBE a talking Sun his voice was so gravely he sounded just like I thought a Sun would sound!
