We got our first quaker 3 months ago. Mollie was 7 months when we brought her home. She quickly learned to step up and to shake hands. But the past few weeks she has started to bite especially in or around her cage. Some days I will use a perch to get her from the top of the cage, then take her in another room where she calms down most of the time. Is this just a stage they go through?? She has also learned to say thank you!! We are new to quakers and have lots of questions.

Looks like you brought home your quaker at the most hormonal time of year-- spring.

Watch the birds outside. They're really funny this time of year. They're all preening and strutting their stuff around the other birds. But if you stuck your hand in their nests, they'd tear your arm off.

Spring is a time of hormonal changes. Even in young birds. Even my sweet Sam, who's barely two years old and male (and thus more immature than my two year old female, Sassy) is becoming more moody as spring veers over us. Sassy and Rico (who is closer to six years old) are both just unbareable unless I approach with food.
