I cant believe that Im posting this! My husband walked out the front door to the car a small distance and Cheeky our QP took flight high up into the sky and to the neighbors roof across the Street! I ran out when he yelled for me and we could see him high up on the roof. Of course he called and Cheeky doesnt come and then he flew off down the other side into the yard where we didnt know. We asked the neighbor if we could go in his yard we did and no sign of Cheeky. So we got the car and drove to the apartments that backed up those houses no Cheeky. We then went back around to the house and I said Cheeky has to be in one of those yards so we went into the other yard (the neighbor wasnt home) and saw Cheeky on the roof of the Next house! Ron had to go home and get the ladder! Oh manI kept saying Lord dont let Cheeky fly off! Ron gets the ladder and brings it to me I then had to climb over the privacy fence onto the ladder he put on the other side! Once over I had to try and put the 2 ladders back together again and my hands were cold and I started praying Oh lord help me...Ron then yelled The neighbors home! The neighbor came around and opened her fence up. My husband came in and put the 2 ladders together and I was able to climb real high where Cheeky was huddled. I kept saying step up step up finally he inched his way over to my finger I couldnt reach him) and he stepped on to me I then put my thumb onto his feet so he couldt fly and I got him!
Cheeky has molted many feathers this last month and has been able to slowly get some lift I had told my husband he can fly dont take him out! Never as everyone says take your fids out if they need a trim! My husband said I never thought hed fly off! I said yes hes gotten confidence! So Monday he goes for a wing clip! I was in tears ohhhh Im upset as I write this!
It has turned cold and there was a small drizzle outside please pray as I am he will be ok.
Lessons hard learned arent they! Thank you for listening and Oh lord thank you I am so grateful Cheekys home!
All I can say is that Im sooo Blessed luckey I got my fid back!!! wow what a day....

Oh my!!! That really scared me. I'm still trembling.
I'm so thankful that you was able to get him.
I don't think you need to worry about the weather. Some people take them out and let them play in the snow.

make sure you clip those wings !! more bird owners lose their birds that way, always keep up to date on the wing clippy, paulie gets a weekly wing inspection, so i know when its time for the trim/....lol

My God Janet, I was almost in tears while reading this....I am so thankful you got little Cheeky back...Oooh my my how scary....
I was reading so fast hoping for the best at the end, Thank God Cheeky is safe and it is a blessing you got him back....Wheeew....My how quick they can get away....
Just this past week I saw on "Inside Edition" this man's cockatoo got away up into a real tall tree....He was able to get up in the tree to get the bird but couldn't get down, so a helicoper was called in to rescue the two......I thought about that while I was reading your post...
I hope you are going to be alright Janet........And Cheeky baby, don't you scare us like that again.....

It happeneds sometimes when the birds wings are clipped. Quakers are very strong flyers. Mine had just had his clipped when he got away. Thank god I found him. He went right back to the vet for a severe clipping. People... make sure after a clipping you test the bird to make sure he doesn't get any lift. Hold your bird about chest high then just let go. If it flutters to the floor it's fine... if it gets any lift... you're taking a chance on losing it outside. All they need is a slight wind and they're gone.
I'm paranoid about taking Sydney outside now even after he's been severly clipped.
