My African Grey is really behaving funny....we put him to bed (only when he goes to bed at night) and he gets on his perch and thinks it is a barrel floating in the water like he is trying to balance on it., like it is moving or something., dances back and forth...Then he grabs hold of the cage with his beak and spread his wings out like he is flying....while he is trying to balance...he entertains me before bed

meanwhile I am laugiing so hard Im about to pee my pants..laughter is a good source of medicine

any ideas?

Sounds to me like he is just trying to get comfortable. My amazon does the streching out her beak to the cage thing just before shes getting ready to take a nap (possibly at night, but she is covered by that time).

I agree, Michelle. My CAG also spreads her wings very often, usually to stretch. Sometimes, she'll stand on one leg and stretch the other out behind her while stretching her wings. It's funny looking, but it must be nice to fan out those wings once in a while!

That sounds like he is telling you he wants to be with you ..

From what I have read, the shuffling from one foot to the other is something greys usually do before they take flight ... The hanging on to the side of the cage and flapping their wings is the same .. Perk almost always does this just before he flies to one of us ... or from his tree to the couch etc ..

It usually means they want to be with you ....

Also greys stretch for the same reasons we do .. loosen things up, release tension and it just feels good afterwards. Greys also stretch to show that they are comfortable with your presence and as a form of greeting. You won't find a grey on one leg if he isn't comfortable in your surroundings ...

Aren't they a hoot ... quite the acrobats too!
