Inyoni the lovebird is going to lay an egg I think.

She's been VERY hormonal this past week or so and today has been spending a lot of time in her chube (carboard tube), her vent looks swollen and her breathing is slightly heavy. She's also lying rather than just sitting in there.
I'm keeping an eye on her and hope she doesn't get egg bound.
She's been eating and drinking today and took a bath earlier aswell as a very agressive bit of self gratification on her happy hut about an hour ago.

Cross your fingers for her! I've no idea if she has layed before as she is about 3 years old, but atleast she has had a good diet since she came to me.

Fingers are crossed hoping all goes well.

Oh Jamie I hope all goes well for her. She's a beauty wub.gif You can also keep a dish of water in her cage so she can moisten her vent area.
BirdTrouble
She takes baths a couple of times a day and has a bath dish in at all times.
She was in her chube for an hour all puffed up, but obviously got hungry and just came out for a snack lol. I was witholding warm mushy stuff to try and discourage the breeding behavior, but now I think she needs it so I gave her some Quinoa with veggies. She's stuffing it down, the little piglet

I'm prepping a hospital tank for her just incase
StephieSue
Aha it's good that you are preparing things just in case she has some problems. Keep us updated girlie!
Quakermom
yep keep an eye on her, make sure she seems comfortable.
BirdTrouble
Well she had her snack, quick bit of self abuse on the happy hut and then went back to her chube, lay down on her front again, puffed up and back came the heavy breathing. Occasionally she fidgets, but doesn't seem uncomfortable.

What do you reckon guys, shall I put her in in the hospital tank by my bed tonight or leave her alone? and if I put her in the tank shall I include the chube? It's her fav place to hang out.
LilBlue
aww i wish you luck, please keep us updated

Ugh that's a tough call Jamie. I of course am a paranoid parront so I would probably have her in the tank where I can keep an eye on her during the night. If i did that yep I'd include the chube. I hope someone with more knowledge will come along though b/c I know that was no help whatsoever.
BirdTrouble
Lol Shorouq, I'm being paranoid too. I think I'll put her in the tank for tonight with a heat source to keep her toasty.
The way she's sleeping in her chube is like she were snuggled down on eggs, maybe she thinks that she has some already? Maybe she's imagining the eggs lol... she's a crazy little bird at the best of times
StephieSue
Jamie how is she doing today?
BirdTrouble
No eggs, she has settled into a cycle of stuff face with food, quick drink, abuse the happy hut, lie in incubating position in the chube. She repeats this every couple of hours or so.

I was talking with a lovie owner on another board and he said his female lovie starts this behavior two or three days before she lays, so I may have a couple of days left before anything happens.
She is not uncomfortable or really straining at all (except for the heavy breathing). I towelled her this morning and her vent it still swollen, but I cant feel anything there yet.
StephieSue
Hey Jamie you haven't posted in a couple of days about the lovie so I'm assuming no news but wanted to double check with ya. How is she doing?
BirdTrouble
LOL, has it really been that long!

No eggs yet, she's still being all broody and eating like a pig.
I guess she'll probably wait till I have given up to pop them out with no trouble... little rat smile.gif
StephieSue
LOL Jamie, figures.
