does anyone find irony in the fact that his bird's name was "Geronimo?"
that's usually what one says when they jump!

I think if that was one of my fids I would have climbed up there, vertigo and all, I would not care. Well that or I would have been shoving hubby's butt up the tree

LMAO...I didn't even think of his name being Geronimo...

LOL---Yep birdbluff, I did see that on the news....I think they finally got a helicopter in there to rescue them both....
You bet I'd be climbing a tree too....or at least trying....
Geronimo seems like it was all in a days' play for him.....

I saw him on the news in NY. THe best thing was. He was sitting in the tree with his bird in one hand and a cigerret in the other. Now how stupid is that!
The bird was trying to bite the cost guard when he was straping them up.
I could never think about doing that to save a pets life-I am scared of hights. It was a great story.

When Raja was younger my kids let him out and he went up in a tree. Believe it or not I lifted hubby up there in a bucket tractor to get him out. We do what we have to, to keep our birdies safe. That is why all my birds are clipped now.

Yeah! Up a backyard tree that is easy and would climb that even 10 feet up not 75 feet- no way.

I would have *attempted* the tree climb... but it likely would have gone poorly for me. I lack the coordination to climb a ladder, let alone a TREE.

thank you! I question the mentality of this guy. I was a little embarrassed for him. I don't know if I could live with myself if I cost the coast guard $2 million. Especially if it happened in my back yard. Why didn't he call someone first?
I think I would have tried to set a cage below the tree, camp out there for a while and try to coax him down. I don't think I would have attempt to climb the tree without a rope or someone assisting me.
Okay...just checked again. He did say he was embarrassed and he took his bird in Friday to get his wings clipped. He also said he is willing to pay if they fine him but he would do it again.
That's where I differ. If I knew I was going to spend $2 million of someone else's money for my bird when I was being negligent in the first place...I don't believe I would have climbed the tree.

I would've climbed that tree in a heartbeat, without a second thought. We taxpayers spend millions of dollars all the time rescuing hikers, mountain climbers, and others who knowingly and willingly put themselves at risk and to the test. In my opinion, this was $2 million well spent. I wouldn't have waited to try to coax the bird down, because who knows if he would have flown off and disappeared forever or what. Nope...my butt would have been climbing...

I would have been right there with you
I pay taxes...so for the love of my pet...i would have climbed away!Taxes have been spent on much dumber things over the years...
Why didn't he call someone? In answer to that...who would he have called? If it had been one of my macaws..the only person either one would have come to would have been me, anyone else would be missing a finger.
As far as the smoking while holding the bird....me and hubby are both smokers...for the health of my pet and kids, we do not smoke arounf them. But after an ordeal such as that...i woulda smoked one too!!!!

LOL....I agree. I seriously doubt that a fireman or someone else would have been able to coax Jojo or Taz to them. Tim probably could have gotten them to come to him, and maybe Jojo would have gone to someone else, but I think Taz would have flown off or tried to eat someone alive.
We smoke to, and don't smoke around them, but in that instance I probably would have made an exception.

Oh, I know just how that man feels. If I were his age, and strong and healthy enough to climb that tree, I would have done it without even thinking about anything but catching that bird before it flew away any farther. And then, once getting to the top and looking down, it's a whole different story. Sure hope he keeps the wings clipped now, so it doesn't happen again. He is one lucky person to actually have safely returned his pet home again.

Poor guy! If I could have gotten up the tree, I would have done it too! I am glad he got his bird back!

I like the story that was posted on here about Cutty getting lose. (can't remember who posted it) I think the owner acted very wisely. He had the entire neighborhood involved and he didn't climb a tree. That was a great story!
I'm just very very glad my bird's wings are clipped...and to think I was leary about doing it.

I know if it were my 'too I would have been trying to get up the tree too, Cass is my most recent rescue & only lets me near her. My quaker I don't think would fly off even if its wings wern't clipped, sticks to me like glue! But that story did convince my husband that we should keep all our babies clipped.

I don't think he meant to get stuck and cost 2M. He got up there and it was oh no. The two million is nothing to save someones life and a pets- JMO. We spend billions on war that kill-thats not worth it. When it could be used on saving people.
I do think he is a jerk for smoking around the bird and up in a a tree. JMO.
