My apartment sucks, the way it's set up when I close the bedroom door when I leave(to lock the cats out), sun shine DIRECTLY in the window and heats up the room and the airconditioner can't get in. So..I am always worried about the birds being too hot. At what temp do you think they will start getting uncomfortable? I mean, I have walked in there before and it was probably close to 85+ F huh.gif

85 is ok...any warmer then that I would have a small fan to circulate the air...when we first moved into this house I didn't know how to set the wall heater the first night and when I went in to get the birds up the room was 90 degrees...and I didn't lose a bird......but the warmer it gets the more they should have moving air, not directly on them tho...JMO smile.gif

I worry about that sort of thing too. If I close the bird room door, it gets too cold in the winter and hot in the summer. I use the space heater in the winter but Iworry about the summers.
I was thinking about getting those plastic coatings you can put on your window to keep the glare out. That would probably help keep it cooler too.

Keep in mind that these birds live in Florida and Texas, not too mention where they originally come from.

In the summer my place can get to 100F and I've never had any issues with my birds being too hot. Just make sure they aren't in direct sunlight and they should be just fine.

Can you leave a window cracked a tiny bit so there's fresh air?

maybe you can get a fan that oscillates. We don't have air conditioning out here and it got quite hot during the summer. The birds were fine. We just had a fan in the room to circulate the air.

What window treatments do you use on your windows ie curtains etc? There are several kinds of blinds on the market now that will allow the room to still retain light but not glaring hot sun and there is also the option of putting static cling tinted window film on windows to cut down on the amt of light and heat that is emitted into a room that you can get for about 25 dollars usually at stores (its static cling so it isnt perm put on the windows and can be easily removed).

I am guessing your air conditioning isnt central air and is a box type unit so it would def be difficult to maintain coolness in that room but you might want to keep the window cracked to keep the room at least ventilated?

Make sure your birds are also out of direct sunlight and they have plenty of water. A fan might help to move air around the room but I wouldnt put it directly on them.

Most birds are able to handle hot weather as long as they have some shade and water.

good luck smile.gif

If you do use a unit air conditioner in the rest of the apartment...can you put another one in that window in the back?
