so i take bambam my tiel into the vet today b/c he has an icky looking eye. of course since it's the first time i've taken him dr welle was checking him out really good, next thing you know bambam is coughing up tons of blood, dr welle on the way out the door informs me he's taking bambam to put him under to see where the blood is coming from so next it was the longest 15 min of my life i think pacing and crying not knowing if he was coming back with my bird i of course after seeing all of the blood was really expecting the worst! well dr welle finally comes in with Bambam in hand, not quite sure why he was bleeding but as of now it has stopped. they kept him in the hospital tank and will watch him all afternoon. once he is a bit calm then they are going ahead and running some bloodwork to check for anything else including anemia since he lost so much blood. i'll be going back out at 1 today to check on him then as long as i don't hear from them i can go pick him up between 4-6 tonight, i'll probably wait til at least 5, ya know give it an extra hour b/c now i'm scared and paranoid about bringing him home with me in the meantime i'm setting up another cage for him to seperate him from the others so i can keep a very close eye on him.......please pray for my lil man that there isn't anything major going on..........

Thanks ya'll for your thoughts and prayers for my lil man. I had to meet up with Brenda and Gail at Dr Welle's office so I was able to go see how BamBam is doing and so far no more bleeding so that's a good thing.

Thanks girlie, I'm doing ok, stressed to the max I think but trying to keep faith ya know. I'm sure BamBam is going to be fine. This just happened at the worst time but I know God won't give me more than I can handle so I'm just handling it, lol.

What an experience.

Well, I just got back myself. Brenda invited me to ride along to the vet with her, for Buddy's first well exam. I got to meet Stephanie's daughter, Marissa, and she is just precious.

Bam Bam is the most shockingly beautiful, all white cockatiel, that I have ever seen. Poor baby, though, still had blood around its nostrils and beak, but seemed to be calmed down when we left.

I sure hope Dr. Welle has some good news for you, Steph. I can't imagine having seen that happen to one of my fids. Maybe by now, he's home and getting settled in?

So sorry for you and BamBam. Hope all is well! I'm so glad that he at least had the problem in the vet's office rather than after you got home from the vet or during the night or something. Have you gotten any news? Sending hugs your way!!!

That had to be really upsetting for you! And Bam Bam! bless you Stephanie I know youre Upset....I will pray for your little fella. Stay strong and remember that God sees and knows ALL things....

Well we just went and picked up BamBam. No bleeding after we left so we should be ok now. I'm a bit paranoid that he'll start again but Dr. Welle told me if there was any more bleeding to take a syringe and put ice cold water in his nostrils to stop the bleeding so we'll just keep everything crossed that we don't have to do that. I put him in Boomer's cage with him for the night and tomorrow I will set up a cage just for BamBam to have to himself. The bleeding seemed to have come from the choanal split which I guess is what connects the nostrils to mouth or something like that. His white blood cell count as well as liver and muscle enzymes were a bit high so Dr. Welle will see him again in a couple of weeks and we're going to try to figure out if there's more going on than what is showing right now. So he gets eye drops as well as oral meds for 2 wks, this is gonna be a trip I'm sure b/c he absolutely hates ppl

He seems to be doing ok. He's pretty quiet but not sure if that's b/c he's just still beat after yesterday, the fact that i have to chase him around to give him meds or the fact that he's in a different cage. Poor guy

Glad to hear the little guy is doing better. I'm sure the stress from yesturday would be the cause of him feeling tired today. Plus he had some blood loss, so that would contribute along with yes, being chased around for meds. Been there and it's no fun.
