I am sure by now that my vaccum is no longer safe for me to use around petey... I just vaccumed today, only the second time since i have had my bird, and it will be the last... I was wondering what kind of vaccums everyone had? The reason Im asking is because I have gone thru about one a year... and i just want to get one that really works.. Right now i have a hoover fusion.. and i hate it witha passion.. this is by far the worst one ive had.. it shoots out a plume of fine dust everytime i start it up... today, its about 49 degrees outside, and ive got all the windows oopen and the fans on just trying to clear my house of all the dust... Petey isnt amused with it, and im worried about his little lungs. I just wrote the hoover company a long complaint, but i dont expect a response... anyway, ive went on way too long about this, believe me, i could go on for a few more pages....
but im gonna end this now and wait for some answers....

i think i used to have one of those.. in fact, it may be out in the garage... something broke on it, and instead of paying who knows how much to get it fixed we bought a new one... i dread the conversation when i have to tell my BF that we have to buy ANOTHER vaccum... hes going to be less than thrilled.

I have a Dyson and I LOVE it - I have had it about 3 years now and wouldn't trade it for anything. They are very expensive though - but with all of the furry creatures I have it was worth every penny.

I'd like one of those eventually, but for now i have a Bissel Lift OFf (the red one) its pretty nice and handy since the body lifts off and is easier to carry.

you know, my mom has a wind tunnel too and she vacuumed up something that broke it and she got to fixed and it only cost ten bucks... the guy said most repairs cost less than twenty dollars... you should run one past a repair shop!

I have a hover bagless windtunnle-self propled-It sucks up but if it gets too full The step attachment looses power. This is upright
I have a miele- I love that one better-but way$$$. I got it for the bedroom-due to boys allergies.this is canaster
If I remember correctly. Consumer reports gave Kenmore & hoover the best ratings. Miele was not rated and I think dyson was not worth it?? Check out consumer report. You can go to sears and try them all out-did you know that?

I also have the Bissell Healthy Home vac...it wasn't cheap but it works very nicely. A little heavier than some machines. It's suppose to clean the air while you vaccum. And it has a air tight hepa filtration system that is suppose to trap and seal in 100% of dust mites, mold spores and 99.9% of pet dander...which is great with my hubbies allergies. I like the upholstery turbo brush it has too.

I laugh when the adverstier say it traps dust mites. Maybe dead one. Live ones can't be sucked up they clamp down on carpet so hard like a tick-they are related to spiders. Hepa filters are great because it does trap the dust from going back into the air. Don't let the ads fool you. Just a selling trick

I inherited a yellow Dyson and I love it. It gets blown out or sucked out with the shop vac occassionally because of the bird dust but it's a great vaccuum!

What I was looking for in a vaccum was something lightweight that will do the job without too much hassle especially since I have 4 levels of house which means 4 flights of stairs to haul it around in and until I put central vaccum in the house I still need to use a vac.
The bissel wont get rid of all the mites but it will suck up some of them their droppings and get rid of the food they thrive on ie shedded human skin etc (gross right)
I dont have alot of carpeted areas in my house but I still use it in the non carpeted areas because when I sweep the dust etc is pushed up into the air and it isnt as bad if I am using a vaccum cleaner. (I have a dust allergy btw)
To keep mites to a minimum you have to monitor the humidity in your house. I have humdity control in my house and keep it at 35%. Mites thrive on higher humidity levels btw.
I also like the attatchments to vaccum around my window treatments and for cobweb removal etc.....
I am sure there are lots of other good brands too. I shopped around a bit and I didnt want to get the most expensive and I didnt want to get the cheapest brand either because with vacs you can get what you pay for. The bissel runs about 200 dollars..shrugs...

I have a Kirby also, and find it to be very nice. I also have "Swivel Sweeper" that I bought off of an Infomercial. It is great for that quick sweep around bird cages that I do everyday. It doesn't do great on little bits of paper and the feathers, but is great on scraps of food and such that my experience tells me all birds create. It picks up almond shells, pellets, ect. with NO trouble.

I have a Filter Queen.. it's awesome..it doesn't have a bag, but a canister where the dirt is contained and a white filter cone..nothing gets blown out..I have allergies and this one is recommended by allergists here..I also have 2 Air purifiers (Defender) made by the same company and they are registered as a medical device if you change the filters like they say...I love both the vacuum and the Defenders...I actually have 3 Filter Queens..I bought a very old one from an ad in the paper and my older Filter Queen, we use in the garage...I guess you could say I love the Filter Queens...Before the Filter Queens, I had a Rainbow..

Mister says it sounds like something is stopped up. Hoovers are actually one of the best on the market. We paid $300.00 for ours with the dirt finder. What makes a hoover better then the others is, it is the only vacuum that diverts the dirt around instead of through the motor. When we had other vacuum's we would go through one a month @ $100 a shot we started asking questions about why. Our research showed us why, and who was the only one we would have a shot of not replacing every month. We have had this one for over 8 years, and it still runs like a dream.
