I think you need to allow your bird more of an adjustment time. One day most def isnt long enough for your bird to adjust to his new surroundings let alone enough time for him to establish trust in you. His biting is defensive as he is afraid and trying to protect himself right now.
Give him some time to adjust and get to know you before trying anything else. What you can do as he adjusts is sit next to him and talk to him so he gets used to your voice. Give him treats. Read books to him (my fav thing to do with fids btw as its the only time I seem to ever have to read).
After a few days allow him to come out of his cage on his own. Talk to him be patient etc...
Once he starts coming out is a sign he is starting to trust you more and then you can start working on step ups with him etc....
Good luck and hang in there

I also wanted to add its not a good idea to allow birds on your neck or near your face in the beginning either. It gives them a sense of dominance in the flock and also could cause yo some injury.

Welcome to the forum!

IMPy definitely gave some great advice there, and I don't think I need to add anything!

Again, Welcome, you definitely found the best (and most addicting!) site!

I agree with Impy- most especially about the part about the shoulder. Shoulder time is a priveledge, not a right. If she is biting than she can't be up there.
What are the details of the situation? Rescue, baby? That could help give some more targeted advice. And it is that time of year, too...

Mercy Me, Yes, by all means give that baby some adjustment period time...I agree with all that has been said...When birdie gets use to you and its surroundings, you will certainly have time for fun.....
Welcome ! ! ! !

I agree: more time for adjustment is probably needed. Hang in there, and welcome to the forum!

Thankx everyone ! She is 10 weeks old right now . So I am geussing I should just bring her on my bed and let her walk around and come to me . Are they really as good talkers as I've heard ? What is the best for them to eat ? I have pellets in there now . REally expensive ones .

http://www.quakerparrots.com/diet/food-nut...ble-for-parrotsHere is a website from this forum. There are a lot of good choices on there. Some usual favourite would be potatoes, cooked sweet potato, corn and apple. Just be patient though, they don't always like the fresh foods right away, it takes them a while to figure out it tastes good.

Yes, they can be good talkers. Not all are talkers but they can get really good. Just keep talking to her and eventually she might pick something up.

Good luck!

... What part of Ontario are you in? Just keep asking questions here, the people here are great and will answer any kind of questions you may have.

Yes patience is the key word. We brought our quaker home last Saturday and all she wanted to do was bite. I would tell her no bite and put her back in her cage for a short time. Then bring her back out. By Monday she wasn't biting anymore and now she is getting where she is ready to come out of her cage and wants to be held. It just takes time.
