I have never given this to my FIDS.......I have to really watch Kiwi and his liver. Here is site that talks about it. It looks safe to me. Does anybody else use this?

I believe Jamie, birdtrouble feeds that to her fids but maybe she'll see this and reply so you know for sure.
Quincy's Slave
It's about the only grain that Quincy will eat, he goes crazy over it.

Quinoa is a good grain for birds. SOm really love it a lot. Quinoa has a lot of protein, so if your bird has liver problems, go light on it or feed it in combo with grains, as proteins are harder for a liver to process.

For the recipe you posted, maybe you can do half quinoa and half oatmeal or barley.
BirdTrouble
I LOVE Quinoa as do my birds! It is the only grainy pasta-y thing that all three will eat happily.

My fav recipe for it is to cook the quinoa (organic) with 1/2 cup organic chicken broth and 1 1/2 cup water to 1 cup quinoa.
Add a bag of mixed frozen organic veggies (green beans, corn, peas and carrots) a 1/4 bag of frozen organic broccoli.
Then, because my fids like curry (and so do I) I mix in curry paste to taste.

The final result is a highly tasty dish for both you and you birds!

Quinoa is high in protein (16.2%), with an amino acid balance close to ideal for humans.

There is an interesting nutrition comparison chart here: http://www.quinoa.net/Nutrition_Facts/nutrition_facts.html
This is only for the Ancient Grain brand though (although I prefer that one over others).
Quinoa is also pretty cheap at just $2.99 a pound for organic in the bulk section.

But as you do have a bird with liver problems, I would drop a call to your vet for advice

I eat quinoa pretty regularly, so Arthur does too. He likes it, but it sticks to his beak, so be prepared to clean them up after. We usually have it with chunky primavera sauce, spinache, mushrooms and eggs, or with diced tomatoes and chiles. It's easy to make, just cook it in the microwave like you would rice, with your veggies added in before cooking. I've mixed it with buckwheat groats and fresh berries before too, that was alright. but not something I'll probably be repeating.
