I ask this question because Kiwi NEVER touches either one of them. Do I need to be grating one or the other or both in his food? I don't have a problem with Gidget messing with a mineral block. Do I need to supply Gidget as well as un dna'd Kiwi with a cuttle bone and mineral block?

I grate the cuttle bone over the boys food occassionally as they to do not touch it much ..its a good supply of calcium I think..don`t do anything with a mineral block though..

I do feed the birds broccoli which has lots of calcium in it. Is that enough?

From what I know about quakers and from what my vet has told me, quakers don't have a high demand for calcium unless in egg-laying mode. Broccoli is great for calcium. So is kale. bok choy and brussel sprouts. an almond now and then is good for calcium, too. If they get a good diet of fresh greens or if they are eating pellets, there may be no need for calcium supplements.

I've never used a cuttlebone, I've always felt the veggies I feed were enough. Arthur delights in broccoli, it's so wonderfully messy and shreddable!

All three of my birds have the Manu mineral block.
Marnie ignores it (African Grey), Inyoni gets a little bit sometimes (PF Lovie) and Lucha destroys one on a regular basis (amazon).

I find it interesting that this block is based on the mineral composition of the Manu clay licks in South America and the one bird that really loves the block is my amazon (although he's a Lilac Crowned and they come from mexico mostly)
