I was just wondering why Pico shakes his tail and fluffs up when I go near his cage.Is it just an attention getter? Also he has lost a few tail feathers lately. Is that normal to lose 1 every week if new ones are coming in? He's lost 3 so far.

It means he's comfortable with you and likes you. It's his way of saying "I'm so glad you just walked in the room!" Sometimes they might also stretch a wing and leg out and then switch sides. This also means they're comfortable with you. It's usually done for the favored person

Oh and yes it'll be normal for the tail feathers to all fall out throughout the molting process while new ones grow in!

As a matter of fact, on one of my vet trips, the vet was playing around with Louie. She fluffed up, and shook her tail. My vet then said, when they shake their tale that means their happy.

Really? That's good to know. Mine has been doing that a lot lately

So have mine. It makes me feel so good!!! Even the ones that don't trust me enough to step-up. It's cute as one of my birds will not step-up for me but she gets jealous if another bird is on my head or shoulder and she will chase them off and sit on my head. I love that!!!
