I know you are supposed to give your birds fresh bird food every day which I do. But what kind of fresh food. Some say pasta. Cooked? What about peas and stuff like that. What do you all give your bird friends along with their seed food that is healthy. And you put it a seperate dish right? Also where do you put the second dish? Next to the food?

here is a great article that has safe and unsafe foods for quakers listed in it as well as why certain foods should not be given to your bird.

Zeke has two bowls. He has a "food" bowl in his cage and a "treat" bowl on the gym that's on top of his cage.
My local pet store sells a bag of dried fruit and nuts for birds. She said she likes to mix a little of it as part of her birds' regular food. I keep it on hand as a treat for Zeke. So I guess it's a personal preference.
Zeke will eat anything I give him so there's never a problem finding anything. I have to be careful if he's on my shoulder and I decide to have a snack. He'll reach right in and grab my food if I'm not watching blush.gif I wouldn't want to bite him! I think grapes are his favorite. Anytime I give him pasta it's cooked. I hand feed him treats most of the time. Once he decides he likes it I will drop the rest in his treat bowl to finish. Also, I have a batch of birdie bread in the freezer. Every now and then I get a piece out and wrap it in a coffee filter for him to have. After he eats the bread he has the paper to play with.
Casey's Mom
Some favourites for Casey are; cooked Pasta, rice (white and brown), bulguar wheat, mashed potatoes, cracked brown rice (like oatmeal), broccoli, cauliflower, sweet potatoes, yams, apple, and melon. We are still working on the corn, peas, carrots, beans and peppers- we try everyday and she throws them on the ground! biggrin.gif

She has her pellets available 24/7 and she gets a snack of something for breakfast- sometimes her cracked brown rice or cream of wheat. About every other day she gets some fruit in the morning. At dinner time she has a separate dish that she has a mix of her veggies and rice or pasta hooked to the outside of her cage, since she is out most of the day. And little munchies throughout the day. You just have to find a food routine that fits your lifestyle. ie. when you are home during the day etc.

Good Luck!
