Hello Everyone,
First of all my name is keith long. I do have a wonderful quaker named Wesser, he will be 3 years old in May of this year. I just wanted to join to share some of my experiences with my quaker. I not an expert, however I have been with Wesser ever since he was 6 weeks old. My wife is a receptionist at a local vet clinic within 5 minutes of my house. One day a lady came into the clinic to bring her dog for his annual shots and posted some handfed quakers for sale on the board. I got her number and called her and made arrangements to come to her house the next day to see the quakers. I fell in love with them and wanted to bring Wesser home with me that day, however she told me that she wanted to keep him for a couple of weeks and make sure that he was eating well enough to come home with me. So I came back home and told my wife that i had already decided to buy the quaker. We went and bought a cage and a pelleted diet that she had already started Wesser on. i also went to a local craft store to buy some supplies to make him some toys to play with and chew on. I really spent a lot of time with him and he has bonded well with me. After about a month of playing with him I decided it was time to introduce him to the other family pets including our two dogs, Ralph the Mini snouzer and Murphy the chocolate dapple daushound and Sandy the cat that my wife rescued from a local farmer who found her in his barn and did not want her. Well Wesser let all of them know who is the BOSS. It is so funny to see him chasing them around the house! Once I learn how to put photos on the computer I will do so. Our youngest daughter is coming home from Samford University for the summer next month, and I will get her to help me with the photos. I have 3 hobbies that I enjoy other than being with Wesser. (1) I love to do woodworking and have been doing it for about 20 years now, (2) I love to do counted cross stitching and started about 24 years ago, (3) I just started Wild Bird Watching in my back yard. I made several bird feeders and bird houses and put out in my back yard and i noticed on Wednesday afternoon that a pair of blue birds making several visits to one of the bird houses and i went to see what was in there and I got to see 5 baby blue birds with their mounths open waiting for food. Sorry about the long intro. I will post some pictures as soon as my daughter comes home.

Welcome to the forum!

I, too, enjoy my wild birds and have a huge variety. Last summer a great horned owl came and visited for a couple of weeks. She was amazing and really cut down on my squirrel population. I also have eagles, ravens, cooper's hawks, downy woodpeckers and a many different small birds as well as the annoying birds like crows and seagulls.

But my all time favorite is my Chica. Such a sweet and cuddly little fid. smile.gif
