OK, so my new dog likes socks... REALLY likes socks. She's obsessed with 2 things... socks, and throwing around a mini marshmallow. She doesn't eat the marshmallow, just throws it around.

Now she has toys... rope toys, tennis balls, frisbees, plushies, bones... every dog toy available in the free world. WHY is she so obsessed with my socks? Clean ones, dirty ones, any colour, it doesn't matter to her... she WANTS THOSE SOCKS.

So anyone have a suggestion as to why my dog wants crumpled balls of paper, mini marshmallows and my socks more than she wants her toys and goodies?

lol..they do it just to drive us insane. Ya spend lots of $$ on these cool toys and they end up playing with your old sock. Just like kids who end up playing inside the big box the toy came in. laugh.gif
Dark Angel
LOL funny!!!!
one of my neighbors has a burmese mountain dog
one day it decided it didnt like all the clutter in the garage so it hauled whatever it could carry out to the yard.

I bought Sonny his own socks LOL A package of purple and a package of red socks...stuffed crumpled paper into the toe..tied a knot in them. Now he can tell which socks are his...and which ones are not! When he picks up a sock thats not red or purple I yell "thats not yours" and he drops it in search of his socks LOL If anyone in the house decides to start wearing red or purple socks...then I guess those would be fair game laugh.gif

lol my cats are the same way.........i am always buying them new toys but they'd rather play with bottle lids, the rings from the milk cartons and whatever else they think is cool........

The socks...well they smell like you. They may have also given her socks as toys. As far as the marshmallows...who knows. LOL
Andie's Mom
Oh, Stacy beat me to it, I was going to say because they smell like you.
Next it will be the underwear! LOL...seriously...

I basically did what Angie suggested and got different socks and gave to them... I went one step further and with some of them I took the little 10 oz water bottles (empty of course) and stuffed inside the sock and stomped on it a couple times to mush the bottle. My boxer absolutely LOVES those toys cuz they click, snap, pop and rattle So now when she gets a hold of an article of clothing that isn't hers, I take it from her and scold her and give her HER sock. Its working but its slow going...this boxer isn't the brightest bulb on the string!

Good Luck Jamie and welcome to puppyhood!

I figured it was the smell too... until she stole them after they were washed... crazy dog. Eh, maybe they still have people smell even after being laundered.

Heh, I'd hate to see this dog as a puppy! She's 2 right now... yeesh, she would have been a terror as a puppy laugh.gif

Man, my mom is going to make fun of me in a serious way when I tell her I have to buy socks for the dog dry.gif Oh well... I guess $3.97 for a pack of socks is better than $14.97 for a Kong ball laugh.gif

As for the marshmellows... I don't get it either huh.gif , but I figure if she isn't eating them (which she's not) and isn't getting them cemented into the rug (which again, she's not) there's no harm in letting her have her fun while I'm making dinner. I always take them away after that because I don't want to step on marshmellow goo when I get up at 4AM.
