Full Version: Grady Is Acting Really Strange

Okay, I'm pretty worried about one of my cats right now.

For some reason, he has been acting REALLY strange for the last few days. At first, I thought it was just horomones. He was meowing for no reason, darting around like a madman, and.... forgive me for saying it, but he's been REALLY horny.

The other day he was lying on the bed, on his back, with his legs spread, and suddenly I saw that he had a giant boner. Ewwwwww. No one was even messing with him!

So, all of that I thought was just horomones. But now one of the cats has taken to peeing on my clothes. I think it's Grady because he's been to going to be bathroom A LOT. I changed the kitty litter completely and afterwards I noticed that he went three times within half and hour... and each time it was only a little bit.

I asked Bill to keep an eye on him while I was at work, and Bill says he is pretty much just hanging out by the kitty litter, going and going...

I had made a vet appointment earlier today for two weeks from now... but after the frequent peeing thing I pumped it up to Thursday. I hope he's ok until then.

Oh, he also has some weird hair loss on his back. I thought it was from a fight with Tuffy originally, but it's been gone for a while. It's like in little U-shape right on his lower back.

Gar... do you think he's constipated or has a uriniary track infection? I have NO idea what might be wrong... he's just SUCH a weirdo that I have no idea if he's sick, or just being WEIRD.

could be a UTI, or maybe a kidney issue??? Hard to say, is he drinking an enormous amt of water? If not I'd say UTI, whenever I get ehm, I have to hover by the toilet..ya know..and it hurts...

I agree with the above poster. This could also be diabetes related, at least it sounds like the same symptoms. I've never had a cat of my own, but I do know that UTI's are fairly common issue. Just keep a close eye on things, and point out anything that you think would be helpful to the vet to make the diagnosis.

I haven't had cats in the 14 years I've had birds, but I had many kitties before that and always heard that UTI could be quickly fatal in males. If he were mine and my vet couldn't see him within 24 hrs, I'd be taking him to the emergency clinic. Have you fed him anything that's been recalled? I would be very worried about any symptom of a kidney problem in any animal, including a human, right now. I surely hope he does okay.

Yup, totally agree it's probably something with the kidneys or urinary tract. Go to a vet! I learned the hard way with one of my cats that even the slightest strange behavior could mean something really wrong. In that case it was sleeping too much and it cost us $2,500 to fix what was really wrong! A coworker of mine just mentioned strange behavior in his cat, and she just passed away from the rampant food poisoning even though he took her in the very day she started acting weird. Best case (for you) it's hormones and he gets fixed, worst case (for you both) it's something major and expensive but at least you know. you know?

yes, that sounds like a urinary tract infection. my male cat did almost the same thing. contantly meowing. i caught him peeing on the couch... not alot, just a little... and he was going in his litterbox way too often. i took him to the vet and he gave him some antibiotics and he was fine!

good job catching the signs!!

My female just had a UTI. She wasn't 'horny' (had to laugh at that!!), but then again, she's spayed. But, she was peeing everywhere. She was eating fine, not drinking any more water than usual and hadn't lost any weight.

Good luck with Grady and let us know what the Dr. says.

I agree with the others. I hope Grady is okay Becky. unsure.gif

Awww, poor guy. Do you feed dry food or wet food? Dry food can aggravate cystitis because of the mineral content. Wet food will help increase the water levels.

Koko used to get them. sad.gif He always let me know by attacking me.

Hope your guy gets in to the vet and feeling better soon.

*UPDATE*

I took Grady to the vet today. The walked in and right away said, "Whew! That cat stnks!" ohmy.gif

Apparently he could SMELL that he had a bladder infection. So he got meds for that and a shot for an allergy to a flea bite that was causing the hair loss. So I feel lot better now that I know he is okay.
