Some of you may remember when I posted about a momma kitty having babies in our boat many months ago. Well she did move them after that, and one day they all appeared at my front door along with her. We fed them and one by one they disappeared, leaving just her and one little boy left. They have been a joy, with the little guy really getting a personality, but I couldn't bring them in for a bunch of reasons (Bubba my prime reason). So, feeding and loving on them made me feel a bit better about that. They would disappear from time to time, a few days here and there but would always come back. they have been gone about 3 days now when I saw momma sitting by her food bowl. I went out and almost fainted - she was covered in blood sad.gif I went over to her and she flinched when I touched her - I wanted to see how bad she was hurt. I came in to get the cat carrier, I was going to take her to the vet, and she was gone when I got back outside. I've been crying since - I hope that wasn't the last time I would see her - I should have been quicker to get her in the carrier. I'm just sick and now scared that the little boy has been hurt too. So many racoons and a couple of other big male strays around here. My heart is broken and I just wanted to share with people who would understand - stray or not, I loved her.

Nancy, I'm so sorry, the life of a stray is never an easy thing, it's wonderful that you helped them out with food. I hope that the poor thing comes back

I just feel that she came back to say goodbye to me. At least I was able to hold her and tell her I loved her before she walked away - I do hope she comes back. But I'm crushed right now - sad.gif
So silly to love something that is not yours and in the wild - I'll never learn.
Thanks guys for your thoughts.

awww that's sad

I hope your kitty comes back... is it possible the wounds were just from a cat fight or something? feral cats have to deal with that kind of thing all the time, they are a lot tougher than the ones we call our own.

If she is ok, she will for sure come back, the love and food you've given her mean that she will likely always consider your porch her home.

Nancy, I am sorry. Even though she was a stray she sure meant a lot to you. Here's hoping she'll be alright and her baby too.

I hope she and her boy are okay. Even if she has passed on, she did knowing that you loved and cared for her. This might sound strange, but she may visit you in your dreams. I've had loved ones animal and some human do that in mine.

It's not silly to love something wild. It's really one of the unique relationships we have with creatures we can never tame. You admire in awe at their struggles and feel privelaged when they choose to aknowledge you. At least that's how I see it.

Strays are truly something else, because my neighbor has a cat that was once a stray, and he is among the sweetest cats you'll meet. In fact, he greets people who happen to walk by the house, and likes to be there when the kids get dropped off by the schoolbus. Some of them even love him too. It's amazing how outgoing he really is. And to think he came from a neighborhood where cats were being poisoned, you'd think he'd be the exact opposite.

I have a resident stray too, and your story really touched me. I love my kitty too, she even has a collar with our number on it so she won't get picked up by the humane society.
I hope she comes back, don't give up hope.
Lena.

SHE CAME BACK biggrin.gif biggrin.gif
Late last night I made one more check and there she was - not only her but her boy (I call him Prince - he has such a princely attitude smile.gif ). When I saw her, I stood there crying - in my nightgown and my husband said what are the neighbors going to think blush.gif At that point I did not care laugh.gif she was back. I checked her over and it appears it was a mating thing gone bad - scratches down her legs and 2 bite marks on her head. She must have been cleaning herself up all day because she did not look that bad at all. She was eating and purring and playing with her baby and me. This morning, she was not there but he was and we played a bit - he loves his belly rubs. I'll keep checking for her, but gosh I feel better now. Actually was able to sleep.
Thank you all for your support - you guys rock

A male could of attempted to mate with her against her will. That can happen a lot in the cat world. The male is feeling randy, but the female isn't in heat, and then all heck breaks loose.

that is great news Nancy that they both showed up. YaY!!!

sorry nancy, loosing a pet is one thing and losing a friend is another. I know this is hard to deal with. Hopefully your little boy s okay. Hopefully he will find his way back. please keep us updated with any news.

Take care of yourself our prayers are with you.

Just a suggestion, can you take them and get them fixed? I know technically they're strays but since you've got such an emotional attachment to them, it would be worth while. Many rescue groups control feral cat populations by "fix and release" they fix the cat and release it back to the location they came from.

I'm glad to hear they both came back!
