Well as some of you know I was having a hard time finding a baby quaker. Andie from here has one, and I was going to buy it. And still may do so!!!! Anyway, like I had said I have been looking for months now and no luck in my area. I got up this morning and went to check my emails to see if Andie had emailed me back from yesterday, and I had an email from a local breeder only 30 minutes from me saying they had 3 babies that were 6 weeks old and already weaned and ready to go. So since it is in my area and I would not have to ship the baby that Andie has I am going to look at these. I don't know if I will buy from this breeder or not. But I think I should atleast go and see. I kinda feel bad after already telling Andie that I was going to buy her quaker. Which if I don't feel good about these I WILL buy hers. I can't believe after ALL this time, after I finally DO find someone with one, that someone in my area pops up right under my nose with them. Anyway I may end up with one of these little boogers today. Isn't it funny how things sometimes turn out?

Six weeks old and weaned? That sounds like monkey business. Buzz was formula fed for almost 10 weeks AFTER i bought him at four weeks old. The baby I bought this weekend is six weeks and can hardly stand up for more than a minute. Be sure to ask lots of questions before you make a decision. Good luck!

Oh believe me I will. I thought that was kind of young too. I did tell Andie that I was not for sure yet on getting one of these so don't count me out yet on hers. I don't want to get any bird that I feel like isn't ready to be taken. This place is a pretty big establishment selling not only birds but all sorts of bird supplies and stuff. I know that doesn't mean anything if they are selling their birds to young. If I feel in the least bit afraid that this baby bird is not ready then I will not buy it. I don't want to get it home and God Forbid the unthinkable happen. I don't think I could handle that. So I will keep ya'll posted as to what happens.

I got Dodger at 6 weeks...and he wa still hand-feeding twuce a day.He regressed for a week back to 3 a day...
I was uncomfortable putting him in a cage because he was still clumsy and learning to perch. 6 weeks and weaned sounds a bit wrong to me.....
StephieSue
I have to agree with the others on this one. That sounds a bit too young to be weaned huh.gif

O.K. I assumed when she said they were ready she meant already weaned. DUH!!!! I should have known. Anyway. I went over there and I was VERY impressed with this place. They had all the babies in a seperate room and several different breeds of birds up for sale. They were VERY strict as to cleaning your hands before touching and they WILL NOT let him leave until he is completly weaned which she told me should be in about 8 weeks. They have a visiting area so that people can go and visit their babies that are still there due to still hand feeding. I got to hold him and I fell in love with him, and put a deposit on him. I can go and visit him as much as I want until he is able to come home. He is a boy for sure so all I have to do now is name him and wait for the big day. I don't think I could have brought him home at this age even if they did allow it. Cause he was still prety wabbly but could stand and play a little. I hated to leave him but I know it is for the best. This will give me more time to go on ahead and get a cage and all. I had one here but I really found one I liked over there for a reasonable price.

Even at this young age I found him to be really sweet and lovable. I visited with him for a good hour. And I'm gonna try and go back as much as possible. So I guess all turned out good. If anyone else is in the Dallas area they have 2 other ones there that are up for sale. They are a few weeks younger than he is though. But REALLY cute.

Sorry for rambling on. Just wanted to tell everyone the good news.

Congrats on your new baby!!! biggrin.gif Any ideas for names yet? Good for you for doing your homework and making sure they were responsible too. smile.gif

When it rains, it pours, eh?

Glad you found a baby that is local to you. This way you can spend some time over the next few weeks bonding with him. Sounds like the breeder is a good one and knows their stuff.

Yeah i was VERY impressed. I haven't thought of any names yet but got a few in mind.

i am so happy for you. they are so darn cute when they are so little. it is great for bonding because they are so helpless and you can't help but feel maternal/paternal over them. love your baby well and you will have the best companion you could have ever hoped for that isnt human. i have had dogs and cats all my life and i never thought i would own a pet that calls me mommy in such a sweet little voice. you will never regret it biggrin.gif
TGarcia
Oh I know, when she first brought him out he was making all kinds of noises. Then while I was holding him I swear he looked up at me kinda like I guess he thought I was his mommy, and started making the cutiest little noise I had ever heard in my life. I of course melted! LOL I knew then that he was the one.

I think I'm going to go with the name Sammy. It was either that, Tango, Baxter or Louie. For some reason Sammy has just stuck out, so i think he's a SAMMY. LOL

And WHERE ARE THE PICTURES OF LITTLE SAMMY????!!!! mad.gif biggrin.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif
TGarcia
Oh My gosh! I wish I would have taken my camera today. But I am going to go see him again tomorrow, and definetly take some pics.

Thanks Everyone! I'm just so excited to have found him. I will definetly take some pictures tomorrow so everyone can see. Til then I'm just doing as much reading up on quakers as I can find. Never can know to much when it comes to these little guys! LOL
Jemi
Congrats for finding a good breeder and your own baby smile.gif . You must be sooo excited! I sure would be biggrin.gif . I'm still so far away from getting my baby, that it seems like forever... That's why I'm living these kind of exciting and happy moments through all of you lucky queker-owners wink.gif .
TGarcia
Jemi don't give up hope if you are still looking. I looked for a long time. And I thought there was going to be no luck for me unles I had one shipped to me from out of state. I had contacted this particular breeder a LONG time ago. And had thought that either they just didn't have any, or didn't answer my email. I had tried literally EVERY place I could find within Texas and Louisiana. And of course I did find a few. But I think some of these people had lost their mind wanting 6-7 hundred dollars for a regular green. Talk about money hungry!! LOL I was almost to the point of giving up on finding one. I'm glad I didn't.

But hang in there. You too will soon be here telling us all about your little baby you are going to be bringing home. And even though I didn't get to bring my little Sammy home yet, 6-8 weeks sound like such a long time to me. But I figure I waited this long, and if this is to benefit his health and well-being then it's worth every day that passes. I can still go and see him though and hold him and get in the bonding time. It's going to be really neat to see just how fast he grows in the next few weeks. I'm going today and see him again. And YES I will remember to take the camera and take pics! biggrin.gif

biggrin.gif Toni you sound so excited and I'm excited for you....Yep, Sammy will be here before you know and we certainly will be looking forward to pictures and and and and what else.... laugh.gif We all share in the excitement with you....And you are very smart to try and learn all you can until Sammy comes home....Hurry up Sammy and grow up little one....We are waiting.....
Stephannie and Buzz
So happy for you!!!

No I added the signature after I found him. I was going to buy the one from Andie but found a local breeder that had one. His name is Sammy and I just added him to my signature. Did that make any sense! LOL
