I guess it just rubbed me the wrong way. I don't know much about it except the bird only likes the husband and not the wife so they are getting rid of it FOR FREE. Sick, sick, sick.........If anybody is interested, PM me. This bird is in the eastern WA/ Northern ID area
grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.....................
Stephannie and Buzz
Do people think they can just post a member of their family for sale/ free on the web????? Makes me sick to my stomach! I would NEVER get rid of Buzz and Olive. They can make me happy on the cloudiest of days....and WHO CARES if they only love one of you?!?!?!?!?!? Buzz pretty much hates David, but you dont see me giving him to the first stranger who thinks hes a "pretty bird"

that makes me mad!

I had to meet mine twice before his first mom decided if I would get him. It was an agonizing week waiting to find out, I loved him as soon as I met him.

Many of our forum members have had to rehome their birds due to family related issues. I don't see why this is any different. Just because they are listing it 'free' doesn't mean they aren't going to screen the prospective new owners. Could be they are really wanting to find a good home for their bird and don't want price to be a problem.

As for advertising on the web, I do it all the time to try and find homes for my babies. I screen every single applicant I get though. But other than the classifieds, how else am I suppose to sell them? It is just a method of getting the word out. As I said, no different then our 'Needs New Homes' section.

As for the ad on freecycle...Sandi, does your Freecycle allow pets to be advertised? I know ours doesn't. So you might want to check with the rules (every Freecycle group has different rules).

That sad, we two quakers, Pickles is kinda crabby towards my husband and we would never get rid of them.We just deal with it. Kiwi loves both us but I think she really loves my husband. Pickles is my little guy! We are looking to get a blue quaker. We would really love one. We would even adopt one from a rescue buy there are no rescues near us. We live in Idaho near Boise.

Gah Im sorry carrie~ann its never my intent to insult anyone from this forum. I shouldnt generalize so much because yea your right its better they are found good homes vs whatever worse alternative there is. I just am straddled torn on the proverbial fence because so many people impulse buy and end up having a rehome situation that ends up at the shelter and unless its in the ultimate primo bird category chances of them getting a forever home is grim. Craigslist is sort of weird in my area. People are only supposed to ask a small adoption fee but most of the times its pretty expensive and they dont care where the animal is going to. Then we have the people looking for free birds so they can turn around and sell them for a quick buck etc and I just am really suffering from burnout because I see way too many birds with not enough ppl willing to adopt them. At the shelter I do volunteer work as an example we have over 150 tiels, 150 tiels that are homeless, ownerless yet if we get a sun conure or any conure for that matter they are adopted within a week of being released from quarantine if not days. I know my own freecycle group does not allow animals on it but maybe in sandis area its ok to do.
Anyways I didnt mean to offend you just wanted to make sure you knew that smile.gif

I think as long as they are screening whom gets the fid.. what does it matter how they go about it... aint no different than here.. or in the newspaper... I have gotten snakes threw freecycle when there owners no long can care for them...

Some people do not look at pets in general... as family members most animal lovers do.. but not everyone is that way. it takes many to make this world go around... why judge someone else on how they go about things

Craiglist is weird everywhere... it the same here...

Nope, I wasn't offended in the least smile.gif And I know what/how you feel. Before I went back to work I volunteered in an animal shelter for a long time. Broke my heart to see those animals in there. And you are right, tiels and budgies are the slowest to go.

For me, I just try to remember that there are good hearted people out there with the best of intentions and I try not to read too much into those types of ads. Because unless you call and go see the bird, you really don't know what is going on in the home.

One of my biggest faults is putting so much faith in mankind tongue.gif I always tend to try and defend the 'bad' guy.

I think it was more about the fact that she's ditching the bird because her hubbie doesn't like him. Q doesn't like my boyfriend that much, but I would never get rid of him because of that.

Either would I, but as I said, there have been members on this forum who have rehomed fids because the family doesn't like the bird. And we did all we could to support those members.

Just saying that we shoudn't jump to conclusions without knowing all the facts. Just my two cents smile.gif

I wish I lived in your state. I'd adopt as many Tiels as I could get my hands on and still care for reasonably. I love my Tiel Cooper and would dearly love another. I've been thinking about gettin another but... anyway, sorry I'm off track here but I wish I was closer to a rescue. I'd feel better rescuing a homeless bird than paying a breeder to hatch a new one.

Ya know I have to totally agree with Carrie~Anne on this one. I believe we just had a thread something like this not too long ago and we were all supporting the parronts of that quaker no matter what they did. Sometimes you are put in a position and you don't have much of a choice. I think we should all learn not to cast judgement on others especially when we have absolutely no idea the TRUE situation.

First off I really have a problem with someone posting that they have a FREE bird on craigs list. I don't have a problem if someone wants to post that they have a bird for sale......don't get me wrong, but what really "frosted" my cake is when they said that the bird didn't get along with the "Mrs." and only got along with the "Mr.". It is pretty evident that they did not do ANY research before they bought the bird, which is really sad! My Mr. Kiwi does not get a long with my Hubby, but I am NOT going to get rid of Kiwi because he doesn't get a long with some one. I think this is really sad. NO, I don't have a problem with people advertising their pets on freecylcle as long as there is a valid reason. I do not see this as a valid reason. I see it as someone that did absolutely NO research before they got the bird. I feel sorry for the BIRD!!!!!!

I am glad you were not!! *big sigh of relief*
At least you do understand where I am coming from since you have walked the walk. I just get flashbacks sometimes of certain situations I have had at the shelter. Like the time someone dumped a plucked african grey she couldnt even be bothered to leave the cage or any toys or the diet it was on infact she was mad we didnt offer her any money for the bird yet months later after we rehabed the bird and was ready and up for adoption she came back and when she saw he was feathered and well nourished etc she wanted well wait she demanded him back (she didnt get him back btw but made the biggest scene ever). Alot of times I watch craigslist because I know its a matter of time before they end up coming to our doorstep and sometimes I will watch the same bird get rehomed via craigslist several times before I eventually see it. I need to quit watching craigslist btw because today for example some guy was giving away 20 of his 100 huskey dogs!!!
I can only imagine.
I keep looking for that ray of hope tho for mankind. I see it in small doses. With the exception of this forum where its in full force. I can honestly say this forum gives me hope for humans on alot of days.

I know you feel sorry for the bird. I feel sorry for any animal in a rehome situation but if they get from point A to a good home at point B it will be great. Hopefully someone with experience will get the bird.

Oh Sandi I can totally see part of where you are coming from. it's very sad and I do feel for the bird also, who knows what will happen to the poor thing. Most craigslist pet sections have you flag free pets but then again if you flag it and they don't find a home and get desperate who knows what will happen. At the same time it's just part of what is going on in our world today, all we can do is pray about it, educate, and try to get ppl who will listen to have some empathy for all of the animals that are neglected and whatnot for whatever reasons.

I have posted several things about taking care of birds and whatnot, articles I've read that mainly came from here on craigslist in the hopes that ppl that are on there looking to get a pet will read and learn about what it's really like to have a bird as a pet or even other animals for that matter. Maybe that's something we can all start doing to educate others out there so that maybe this problem will slow down. Take action and do something instead of just getting so aggravated and upset when we see this happen. I've actually gotten emails back asking me questions about birds they already have and what they should do and whatnot as well as emails thanking me for posting these things so they knew exactly what they were getting into. Just a thought wink.gif

I guess I am just an "AVID" pet lover and hate to hear these things. A couple of weeks ago, having a Cat just show up at my house and feeling very sorry for it and going out of my way to find it a NICE home. Just makes my heart sick................to think that a bird like my "Mr. Kiwi" would ever be given away because someone didn't like that he bit the Mrs., just makes me very sad.

Sandi I think all of us on here are avid pet lovers as well. Why do you think I've got so many fids right now? I felt sorry for each and every one of them b/c they were being rehomed and wanted to give them a forever home. yes I let some of them breed but I've stopped them b/c there are too many out there now that need homes and I'm not going to bring anymore into this life.

We can all debate this forever and nothing will get done unless we find a way to help others learn what is actually involved in taking care of a bird and other animals.
