I'd say, alls well that ends destroyed- get him some branches from outside of safe wood for perches, then he can destroy to his heart's content without you crying over cost. wink.gif

Yummy! laugh.gif I want a perch for breakfast too! (PS Wooden clothes pins can work too.)

But don't use the clothes pins with the spring attached...they can get their little tongue or toe caught...If the perches he's chewing is wood, then I would invest in some wooden toys...foot-toys he can hold and chew...do you find the chewed wood pieces on the cage bottom? As long as he's not swallowing, I wouldn't see any hard in his chewing them and then supplementing the perches with wooden toys...

I agree with the others.

Like Rebecca said, keep an eye on his chewing. A fellow Quaker owner that I know had a chewer too....her QP ended up getting a sliver caught in his crop and had to be syringe fed formula for 2 weeks while the crop healed. Trust me, it is NOT easy to syringe feed a 24 year old Quaker laugh.gif laugh.gif

Yup, I agree with all the above...Be glad that he is chewing up the perches at least...yes its a pain in the arse to replace them...but its a small price to pay considering he could be plucking his feathers all out instead. Wooden toys you might consider getting to start with are the type that are the same color as his perches...then once he gets the idea of chew that up you can start adding more destroyable things.

I see my amazon just destroyed his swiing perch so I'll need to replace it AGAIN!! plus he's gone through 3, 1 inch dowel perches now...Better that than my fingers or his feathers...Oh wait...he still gets my fingers...but he leaves his feathers alone and he has a nice beak!

Well, with the dowels, too- couldn't you buy untreated dowels at like Michael's or something and then use the hardware from the old perch to 'refresh' it?

Thanks for a the great ideas!!!
Ill have to try wooden toys with him - never even thought of that.
he rips the perches off in strips i don't think he eats it...but his beak is getting a worn - can they ever break their beaks??? - is that a stupid question?
