We are going to be getting a baby Green Cheek in a couple months and I am wondering if I will eventually be able to put both if my Quaker and the Green Cheek in the same cage. I don't know what the sex of this bird is going to be and am not sure if that is somthing I am going to have to worry about. I guess that is another question I have too. I will obviosely be having them in different cages for a while, but am wondering if it is ever going to be a possibility?
Thanks!

I'm pretty positive that a GCC and a QP wouldn't be able to have viable offspring as they are too distal evolutionarily- however- I would not house them together. GCC (at least the ones I've seen) are significantly smaller than QPs and you wouldn't want an accident when you're not there to break up a fight.

I own a gcc and a quaker,to put it mildly no way in he## i could ever put them in a cage, let alone the same playstand together. Both of my birds go out of their way to try to get to each other. I often joke that I could probably make a quick buck if some moron ever decided to hold illegal parrot fighting rings. jk...my gcc is way overbonded to me, but my quaker can still be handled by anyone. be careful...good luck

I would agree. I have a hard time finding a good justification for housing birds, even of the same species, together.
Aside from the very real chance of having a fight get out of hand and significant damage being done, I still feel that to maintain a good human/avian relationship separate cages are a big plus. Birds that spend hours caged together will naturally bond with each other, and less with thier humans, to varying degrees. To maintain optimal pet quality separate housing is essential.

The only bird i would house together were the tielbabies i bred and handfed. They still maintained their bond with me,and maintained the friendly personality that makes tiels so desirable as pets. But even then it may not work out, My daughter has two babies from the same breedr ,different clutch but shared the same cage in the pet store, and here at home. Im looking for a second cage as the female lutino is just way too bossy for my comfort level. doesnt injure the male but seems to increase his stress level, so not worth saving a few bucks on a cage. jmo

I have to agree with the others that have posted....no!!!!
I also have a GCC and a quaker..and for all the same reasons I would never house them together.

Thanks everyone..
I wasn't sure..My quaker is 13 and is a little fiestmeister, so I sort of assumed I wasn't going to be able too anyway. Do you think that I should have them in different rooms as well? Or would across the room from each other suffice? Petey is clipped and I probebly will be getting the GC clipped too for obviose saftey reasons, so there should'nt be any unsupervised flying. Petey is like one of my kids, so I am constantly aware of where he is when he is out. I am sure it will be no different with a new bird. Anyway, well that is definatly something to take into consideration. Thanks for the comments

I find it funny how Green Cheeks are under estimated. They are smaller than Quakers, but their beaks are pretty much the same size and they can hold their own! I'm not saying to cage them together, nope not at all, but I am saying that Green Cheeks are tough little birds and given the chance most of them will fight back.

Naaaaa, same rooms are just fine. Keep them both clipped and keep the cages far enough away from one another that there can be no 'flying' to the other cage.

Well I have a maroon bellied conure and I know sometimes they call them the green checks, but anyway we never put our quackers with her because Sammie may be small but she a good bite. She is also very protective of me so they would not stand a chance with me and her. She gets jealous. She is such a cuddle bunny tho!

When I first brought my green cheek home, she was quarantined for the 30 days. I then put her in the same room with Kiwi, my quaker. Even tho little Gidget was clipped she still managed to fly. It took alot of time to teach little Gidget to stay on her cage. My little Gidget thinks she is tough and stands 10 feet tall (according to her) she is not afraid of anything that is why I have to keep them apart.
