Frankie's Mom
Hi Everyone,
A rescue group I work with is having quite a bit of trouble filling two legs of a drive to save 21 dogs from being euthanized. These babies are out of time, and will be put down if we do not get them out this weekend.
I know several members on this forum are in IL, and I hope you will be kind enough to cross post this information to anyone you know who may be able to help. If gas money is an issue, it can be addressed.
Thanks in advance to you all for trying to help these dogs get to no kill shelters and foster homes!
Kind regards,
Joni

We have drivers from Marshfield, MO to Springfield, IL. Need kind souls to pick up rescue pups in Springfield and drive to Bloomington, IL and then another volunteer to drive from Bloomington, IL to Joliet, IL!! These babies will be put down if we can't get them out this weekend.

Ugh if hubby didn't have the van I would definately try to help but he more than likely won't be home with it by then...gosh I sure hope they find someone to help!

I may be going senile here, but isn't it the 8th? This already happened, one way or another. I do sympathize, though. I rescue drove a couple dogs in similar positions (wooo 5 hours in the car with barking dogs wacko.gif). Should have done it at least once more, 2 lovely dogs were euthanized at the shelter I volunteered at. We were |-| close to taking both of them.

Good catch!! It is the 8th...that email was for last Saturday. Hope they got the drivers they needed.

I think that email was for last week but they weren't able to make the transport so they have rescheduled it for the 12th which is what she posted in the title of the thread!

Now I may be wrong but that's kinda what I'm gathering from how things are worded....
Carrie~Anne
ahhhhh you are a smart cookie, Steph!! biggrin.gif

awww i wish it was next weekend instead of this weekend... I would have been able to do it, since I am headed that way to get my fid anyways! I have people coming saturday to pick up a glider so i'm out this weekend!
Frankie's Mom
Thanks to everyone who responded. This transport is SATURDAY MAY 12. The transport for last week had to be canceled because we couldn't fill the last two legs -- just like this week.
It's sad to see 21 dogs die needlessly, when they have a place to go, just because they can't get there.

Please cross post if you know of anyone who is able to help. sad.gif

This drive has not happened yet, and yes, yesterday was the 8th. The drive, as stated in the title, is SATURDAY MAY 12. Okay, so I made a mistake by not correcting the original email I received when I cut and pasted. Sorry for the typ-o. That doesn't excuse the animals from still needing help. So "good-catch" or not ... 21 dogs are sitting in a high kill facility waiting for someone to be kind enough to agree to drive them from Springfield, IL to Joliet, IL ... otherwise they will be euthanized on Monday May 14.

Wish I could help, Im in the Joliet area but I have obligations I cannot change. Hope they find some help and I'll try to spread the word in the area.

Err...relax, no apology is needed, we just needed some clarification.

As I said, I hope those dogs get the drivers they need.

Thanks to everyone willing to spread the word.

Carrie-Anne ... you are right. I am extremely uptight trying to get this coordinated. Just looking for any and all outlets of ways to get the word out. It breaks my heart to see things like this. I understand they happen everywhere -- but this one I am taking personally because of being the one to beg the shelter to keep the pups another week and promising we could get them out. I hate to break my word to the shelter or my commitment to the livelyhood of the dogs. sad.gif

I appreciate each of you taking the time to respond, spread the word, and cross post.
Thanks, again. smile.gif Please know that I am sincere when I say that I appreciate having a forum, with caring souls such as yourselves, to be able to post this on.

I'm nowhere near there, too bad. It sounds like someone is probably just going to have to take the whole 2 legs if you want the dogs out of there. Unless someone closer can keep them... I don't know what the distances involved are, but perhaps you could raise $ for the gas so people wouldn't be so reluctant to go so far... I'll go 3 hours each way, but then that's $50 in gas- iee!

Paying for the gas is a great idea, Alusdra, and it has already been cleared by the rescue ... just keeping fingers crossed now that it will happen ...

Just a thought...

There is a yahoo group for transporting parrots from one home to another. Maybe there is a dog group too?

I am cross posting on a pet rescue/transportation group I am part of - hopefully someone can help. I am unfortunatly booked for the weekend and can't change. I will donate money for gas though.
I would also be willing to donate money to the shelter if they could keep the dogs until next week and then I could probably do the transport.
