Do you feed any baby food to your QP? What kind do you think would be good? Just thought I'd try some for no special reason.

I wouldn't recomend it. Even the brands that don't contain additives, preservatives, salt and sugar, ofter contain galic or onion powder, both of which are not good for birds.

I think the only thing I would add baby food to is birdie bread. But as UZ said, you really have to look at the ingredients on the package.

Thanks for the info. I thought I had read on here before about some feeding baby food. Maybe I was wrong.

I give Hemingway baby food every now and then-- I have a human baby (Griffin) so I figure why leave the feathered one out? Especially now that there has been a change in baby foods to make them healthier without all the preservatives and salt that they used to have.
The only foods I have found with onion/garlic seasoning is the chicken/meat sticks for babies. We don't share those with Hemingway. They even make organic baby foods now-- Hemingway used to enjoy the squash and sweet potatoes especially. Now that Griffin is eating diced foods, Hemingway is in love with the diced baby apples, peaches and pears. They are awesome for treats because they are small cuts of fruits. You can check the ingredients lists but I know that none of Griffin's foods have/had seasonings/preservatives/salt added. I only give Hemingway the pureed or diced veggies and fruits.

Does anyone give thier Quaker Baby cereal? The Oatmeal or organic grain kind. My bird loves it. I hope it's okay to give it to him.

i do feed cricket baby food since he doesn't eat fruits or veggies yet.
i make him warm oatmeal every morning and add a teaspoon full of some sort of veggie baby food. i just looked at my squash jar and the only ingredients are squash and water. i've used other veggies but so far he likes the squash the best!
sounds yucky... oatmeal and veggie baby food... but he eats it!

As long as there aren't too many questionable ingredients, I wouldn't worry to much. I've heard of baby foods being safely fed to sugar gliders and strangely enough, geckos(primarily the fruit eating types).

As for the baby cereal.....be cautious with the actually 'baby cereal'. This can be loaded with iron, which isn't good for our QPs.
But if it just the regular oatmeal stuff (or organic), and made for adults, then by all means, feed it.

We use baby food sometimes as well. Casey likes the Sweet Potato one, there isn't any other ingredients except Sweet potato and water, so it's safe (I always check for the extra onion powder and garlic

)
We usually do the same this as Kris, we make an 'oatmeal' for breakfast (not actually oatmeal, but organic cracked brown rice) and add the baby food to it, Casey loves it.

I agree with Carrie Anne about the iron though, every once and a while she has cream of wheat, but it contains a lot of iron too, so we are careful with that. We have looked at other baby cereals but they are always loaded with iron. We recently found (in the baby food aisle) rice chip things, 100% organic brown rice... Casey LOVES them!
