Full Version: Yogi Is Outta The Closet

Yes that's right friends. Yogi was a closet talker.

My husband, and my daughter thought I was crazy because Yogi would babble incoherently to me with a quick "hello" at the end. Of course the second hubby or my daughter came within hearing distance, it was silence.

Worse yet was his refusal to go within a foot of ANY toy I gave him.

How do you rotate toys for the little green chickens? Yogi is only just this week starting to touch the toys I put in the cage before he came to live with us lol. I can't even imagine rotating out toys to put in something new blink.gif

oops.. getting off topic <ahem>.

I caught my little closet talker on video, so hubby cancelled the strait jacket laugh.gif

My little genius said the following when he was caught on "Totally Hidden Mommy Cam"

1. Hello
2. Good Bird
3. Step Up

I've also learned the concept of "for every action there is a consequence/reaction" lol.

Action: He's a great big ole snugglebug too. I know shoulders aren't a great place to let your bird hang out, but he likes to cuddle there

Consequence: A quick nip, and a missing piece of the top of my right ear <ouch.. did you know it takes a long time for cartilage to stop hurting, once injured> lol.

Action: Yogi likes to tug at the chain on my neck, and the edge of whatever top I happen to be wearing (while making the cutest little noise..I think he's playing his version of peek-a-boo).

Consequence: Various little nip marks along my collarbone, resembling a Yogi-chain blush.gif

Action: While I was reading, Yogi was climbing around and trying to remove my glasses. He got bored with that after he realized they don't fall off when he tugs on them. So my little plastic surgeon decided the freckle at the corner of my lip just shouldn't be there.

Consequence: Yogi removed a freckle for me "free of charge". Reading and Yogi up close and personal don't mix.

So I'm learning the hard way that shoulders are a no-no. Yogi is being a real little trooper about it though. He's more than willing to move on to other areas that have freckles, and with surgical precision he removes them blink.gif

It's been a fun-filled month with Yogi/ogi/Yogurt.

He loves when I ruffle up his head feathers, and tickle under his wings. When he gets a lot of head massaging, he actually starts to purr like a little kitten. Very loving little guy when he isn't removing freckles lol.

He has stopped tormenting the other furry animals, and they in turn have decided it's safe to sleep with both eyes shut when I'm there to protect them wink.gif

The cats and dog have come to terms with not being allowed anywhere near the birds. I'm glad I read the posts about never letting the bird out of my sight, or the animal's saliva to come in contact with the bird. That was probably the best advice I read about "before" I brought a bird into the house.

Ok.. enough babbling for now. Just wanted to let everyone know how my little buddy is doing.

I loved your story.......Yogi sounds like your typical quaker.......biting ears and chains. My Kiwi has done a number on my mole on my neck.....ouch. I hear ya!
Dark Angel
great story!
I have yet to make one but alot of my friends make birdie necklaces to keep their fids occupied on their shoulders they look like bird toys that have been strung together with bits of leather etc for them to monkey with instead of ears and other stuff...they swear by them. I have yet to make or try one out.

I am soooo happy to hear Yogi is doing so well! What a little cutie ... LOL ... love the Totally Hidden Mommy Cam!! blush.gif

I swear by the birdie necklaces. It is the only reason I still have ears and can wear my wedding ring in peace.

I'll just toss this in...when you start rotating toys in and out...hang the new ones on the outside of the cage for a while before putting it inside. that way its familiar to them...However...just moving them around in the cage with out changing them out can work just as well...
