takes you to a website with lots of pictures of plants that are supposed to be safe for Birds. I recomend that before take any chances with plants that you buy, double check the info in other wesbites or do a google search.

gogo has this fetish for running his beak all over the outside of glasses and mugs -- he likes the condensation and beaking the rim -- i drink beer and he likes beaking the frothy head and dips 2 or 3 times into the foam -- i hope thats not too much beer for him -- i dont think so but i guess i'll stop that-- looking up with beer on his nose is pretty hilarious, though -- ive seen a youtube video of a quaker beaking whipcream off the top of a drink -- its the foam they like, i reckon -- hmm -- have to think of some safer foams...

sweet pea is a flowering plant, Lathyrus odoratus, and is poisonous. peas are fine for birds.

Charlie LOVES soy sauce I'm not sure if its coz of the saltyness (even tho ours is low sodium soy) but everytime we have stir fry he 'yoinks' some rice from our plates and runs off with it and devours it lol.

What sauces are ok to give our birdies??

I was checking out the list here:
http://www.parrot-and-conure-world.com/non...-for-birds.html

I noticed that parsley was listed as toxic. We give this to our birds all the time and this is the first place I have seen it on a toxic list.

Also, anyone know why kidney beans could be deadly? I saw that on another site. I know dried beans of any kind aren't okay, but I have never heard of any bean uncooked to be bad.

Why is Pedialyte okay and not Gatorade? I thought they were pretty much the same thing.

Cooked rice and noodles are fine for the fids. They usually love it!

Small clarification on the milk subject:

It is the proteins in the milk that the bird does not have the enzymes to digest smile.gif

Same thing with chocolate (don't have the enzymes to break it down), and usually when you are talking about animals getting sick from chocolate, it is from dark chocolate, like unsweet baker's chocolate. Which is why sometimes people's cats, dogs and birds eat chocolate candies and don't get sick. However, I NEVER feed any of my animals ANY kind of chocolate, EVER.

I just read that crackers are toxic, I just gave some some pieces of graham crackers and she loved them. And we don't know if she is a he or she?

Alcohol, caffeine, chocolate, avocado (guacamole), salty or fatty human foods (like salted peanuts, oily foods, etc.), coffee, the pits of most fruit, and dairy.

Some dairy in small quantities can be ok, but birds being birds, and not mammals, did not evolve to drink dairy so they lack the proper enzymes to break down dairy products. Just use dairy products on a very limited basis. It's yummy to our QP's but not a healthy food smile.gif

This is in the newest Bird Talk magazine on Page 36: "Never give a bird onion or garlic, as these items contain aromatic sulfur compounds that can cause red blood cells to rupture. While this is a bigger problem in mammals, which do not have nucleated red blood cells found in birds and reptiles, it is best to avoid these items anyway. "
