I looked over yesterday and for the first time my quakers were finally breeding.
I been had their nest box on the cage. They have their cuttlebone, but never use it.
This is the first time breeding quaker parrots.I read alot on them before trying.
It said on one article, that once they start breeding, they will start laying eggs one egg every other day.
So since they bred yesterday,do they need to breed anymore to have eggs or is that one time enough?
Also,Will she lay eggs tomorrow or does it take 7 days?I was told and have read 2 different things.
She has been in and out of her nest box over and over.
Please help me on this.
Thanks

I can't answer your question but just wanted to say that many people are not on here today because of it being Mother's Day. I am sure it will get better later on this evening and someone will be able to help you....

I think the quakers are the same as the IRN in the breeding area. eggs will be laid approx. 10 days after mating begins and an egg will be laid every other day until you have a full clutch, IRN is 4-5 eggs but I think quakers can lay more. They will mate during this whole process. Once the clutch is laid, incubation will begin, which should be in the realm of 23 days.

You should learn how to candle the eggs at approximately two weeks to check for fertility. If they are not fertile you can remove them and have the hen go down again for another clutch.

Now I have not bred quaker parrots (this season will be my first with quakers) I have only bred Indian Ringnecks. So an experienced quaker breeder may correct me on this but that will be a general process.

Off to do some research for this season wink.gif

Yes, within one week she should start laying..but just because they are breeding doesn't mean anything...lol but a good possibility.. one thing you need to know about breeding QP is, you can NOT mess with them and or the eggs...and once they hatch only peek but don't put your hands in the nest box...QP's are VERY aggressive and will kill the eggs or babies if you mess with them...just something a very good friend who breeds Quakers for over 30 years told me...just passing on what I learn..Good luck!!! smile.gif

Incubation is more like 26 days I do believe...Tiels are 18/21 and I know QP are longer
