I was given a toy for my little Tango by a co-worker today, and after checking it out noticed that it has been painted.

I know that the person who purchased the toy bought it at a toy store.............is it safe inside the birds cage.

It is a football, baseball, basketball, and soccer ball on a sting with a bell at the bottom, and has some little extensions between each ball for the bird to play with.

Just concerned.........if the bird is chewing on it....will the paint be dangerous?

Personally I wouldn't let our play with a painted toy. If it is an oil based paint it could certainly be toxic. There is no way to know what kind of paint it is, and a parrot beak will have little difficulty in chipping off the paint and potentially injesting it. I always try and ere on the side of caution.

I have to agree with ZF.
Even if the toy was manufactured in the US and the packaging specifically labels it as non-toxic, the only 'chips' I'd want my birds to eat are the food kind (whole wheat, unsalted, low fat of course smile.gif

Kudos to you for enquiring about it! I agree with the others, no painted toys (would you suck on it? laugh.gif ).

Careful with toy store stuff. Some of them can be safe, but others can not. Even 'bird' toys aren't always safe, so it is always important to inspect the toy before allowing your bird to place with it. smile.gif
