My parakeet may have mites. How do I get rid of them. He has these brown spots where feathers should be. Help?

I would take him into the vet and let the vet decide if he has mites or not. Then your vet can recommend the best plan of action. Please do not use any medications that you get from the pet store unless a vet advises that.

Thanks, Carrie!

It turned out that Chester has a respiratory infection. The doctor gave me liquid antibiotics to put in place of his water for 5 days. I sure hope he drinks it. He said the brown spots were stains from what came out of his nostrils. Poor baby. sad.gif

Aww poor guy!

Hope he gets better soon!

Chester seems to be doing better. His nostril was clogged but it's clear now. He's still eating and drinking his antibiotics.

Wonderfull news that your vet has identified the problem and is treating it.

Just goes to show, nothing is better than a good avian vet

Believe it or not, this vet isn't an avian specialist but Chester is doing so well. He was in there chirping his head off last night and I had yet to hear that! smile.gif
