Several of the regulars suggested that we clip her wings. This was all the more imperative as she's severely sight challenged. So, wings got clipped. A couple of flight suits (complete with diapers) were purchased and put on almost daily. We made it a point to stress that since we had our flight suit on we could go outside and feel the wind and sun in our feathers not to mention go places. Of course, rain drops are to be avoided at all costs in her book since they're so big compared to her.
Beowulf has gotten to the point where she loves to go shopping and to anywhere where she can socialize. She loves keeping beat with Fife and Drum Corps, doing "step ups" to strangers who want to admire her more closely, and is very vocal when she is not ready to return home.
Best of all, this past breeding season we got kisses all over our hands and faces, zero aggressiveness toward us, and Beowulf's taken to adding her two cents worth when we're discussing things that pertain to the flock (including us). The kick is she's very articulate when it comes to letting us know her take on things. She ticked off a friend of ours a couple of weeks ago. He and my husband took her to Wally World and the friend tried to teach her "crock pot" and get her to say it. Beowulf flat out refused to do so until she got home, saw me, and then we got treated to several distinct "crock pot"s.
Now if we can only get her to understand that our "feather" shirts aren't matted and aren't in dire need of preening to the point of being a collection of air conditioned points.
