Full Version: Lily's Tail Looks Awful

Lilys tail has always had some problems because of the way she sits on her sleeping perch but now the feathers are going several directions and Ive been worried that shes trying to yank them out or something..

Does anyone know why they might be like this or how to fix them?

Sorry never posted an image and im not sure how to resize it.

Sounds like she is hitting/rubbing her tail against something while she is on her sleep perch and the only thing I can suggest is to reposition the perch, otherwise she will keep knocking/rubbing it against whatever it is she is doing it against.

As for fixing it, you can't. You're gonna have to wait until those feathers molt out.
Casey's Mom
I agree with Carrie~Anne, we rotate the perches and toys around Casey's cage every week or so for variety and I always try to make sure her tail doesn't rub anywhere. Try moving the perches and see if that helps. smile.gif

Hopefully her next molt isn't too far away...

Good luck! smile.gif

I agree too. I was just wondering...do you have another bird? Wasabi's tai kept getting chewed off by our Lovebird. The vet told us to pluck her torn tail feathers out a couple a day (just a few a day so not to stress her too much) so they would grow back faster. I was nervous to pluck them but it wasn't too bad. She had new ones back in no time.
