Kayak the Jackdaw has been with us for 5 days, now, and already he's almost completely tame. He shows no fear at all of Britta or me. Typical kid, he likes being dirty, so we took him down to the kitchen to have a bath in the sink. Not popular!
You want me to do what!?
After our first attempt, he flapped around, barely able to control where he was going, and landed on Britta's shoulder:
You're not getting me in there!
So that's what these things do...
Don't just stand there... feed me!

He's very cute:) Are jackdaws by any chance related to the crow family of birds? Because he sure remebles one a bit, and they too are very smart.

Yes, they are crows – Corvus monedula. And they are just about as intelligent as parrots.

Is this one of those 'go over to AnAG for full details' kind of thing? Is he a pet? Rehab? I'm very jealous- I love all the corvus guys and always wanted one as a pet. (Psst- where'd you get him?)

Well you could go to AnAG, of course, or you could just read it here on QP.com by clicking on this link. Oh, and look out for the update lower down the page.

Crows are so interesting and smart and I have wondering how much they are related to parrots if any. We've got a huge flock of them that hang out on the trees/woods behind our house. I love to go out and watch them. They remind me of the parrots in Telegraph Hill for some reason. I just wish I could tell them apart! I've been meaning to research them a bit to try and find out more about them. Do you have any more info on the cq?

What a beautiful birdie Kayak is! His eyes are absolutely mesmerizing! I am amazed that he has been tamed so very quickly ... and extremely happy that you saved him! Thank goodness for you and Britta!

I would love to get to know a crow! My husband had a pet one, Crocus, when he was a kid. He tells such wonderful stories about him.
Please share more pictures and stories about Kayak. I can hardly wait!
