it is 9am and i have been trying to get luigi out of his cage for almost 45 minutes now i know you can't make them come out if they don't want to and i am not trying to pull him out. i opened the cage door and he came right down and stood on the first bar at the bottom of the door and was acting like he wanted to come out but when i put my hand near him he bit me. not just like a "feeling it out" bite but like a hard bite that left a mark. when i put my hand anywhere near him he makes this cooing puring noise that is actually quite cute but then he bites me every time and he bites hard and won't let go. last night i got him out and played with him for almost half an hour but this morning he won't come near me, any ideas on why he is doing this or are mornings just a cranky time for birds?

If I recall, he's fairly new and is probably still settling in and adjusting to his new life. Is he getting enough sleep?

Just give him some more time to adjust and I am sure he will be coming out of the cage to play with you soon, just give him some time. Maybe offer him some treats etc.

Others may have some better suggestions.

I would get a stick or a dowel and have him step up onto that, then take him into another room, away from his cage. Then do at least 5 minutes of step ups, with a lot of praise. I also recommend "Guide to the Quaker Parrot" by Mattie Sue Athan, it is a great resource book.
