Quaker Parrots Forum > Welcome! > Introductions

I was referred to start a thread here, so here I go.

I recently bought a Quaker Parrot because a friend recommended that I try to raise one (she is also an owner of one). I recently lost a Budgie who was my life long companion and co-pilot. I also work at two wildlife rehab centers that take in injured raptors and reptiles, and do environmental educational programs for schools, nursing homes, daycare centers (I won't lie that it's the most awesome job I've worked for).

So yea... I will be visiting here a bit to get more info on raising my Quaker better because it is a different bird than what I am used to working with. I absolutely love birds and wanted to try to raise a bigger bird. I was told that Quakers are sweet-natured and are easier to care for compared to many exotic birds. It was a tough decision to get another bird, but since I have one more year of college and have a sense of where I will be living, I would be able to care for this bird.

Welcome aboard Meepers, this is a great place to live, and you'll soon find that you will be living here! LOL....Lots of great and knowledgeable folks here.

Quakers are great birds, not with out their own problems at times but still a great bird. You just have to figure out what makes your's tick and build on that.

Feel free to jump in anytime and ask questions and volunteer info if you have it.

Looking forward to photo's and more posts.

Well, I am trying to see if I can bring my bird with me to work! I normally run the office alone, but need to check with my boss. But to most of the owls I work with, she would be their supper. tongue.gif

It's a 6 and a half month baby still and it's very jittery. I'm working with the bird very slowly because my QP is one moody bird! One moment it wants to be petted, touched, and cuddled, couples hours later it tries to bite me (and do they BITE)... and another hour later it wants to be out of the cage. This bird is also not a morning bird... THANK GOD since I am going to try and bring it with me to school for my last year.

I am working on getting pictures, but most of the time it doesn't want to be out of the cage!! I got one shot of it (which is below). I heard from another posting that you shouldn't force the bird out of it's cage or you will develop bad relations with the bird.

I'm still working on names.... was going to name it Kiwi, but it doesn't eat Kiwi!
I might name it Snapple because it's green as an apple and it likes to snap at fingers sometimes. Plus the bird LOVES eating apples. Pepper is another option because it loves eating hot peppers (man does this bird have strong taste buds!)

I'm also planning on getting it tested t find its gender. I hate referring to the bird as a "it."
