Hi Everyone,
Me and Buddy are going to Maine this weekend. Any tips or advice on making the
trip more enjoyable/tolerable for my QP?
I have a small travel cage, that is currently on the table and available for Buddy
to climb on and in, so he can get used to it. He has been in it already and did not
seem to mind it.
Thanks in advance,
Jenn & Buddy smile.gif

PS - Buddy still has not grown any new feather, I have never seen a bird sooooo slow
to grow new feathers. He is a cute fuzzy grey ball of fluff!

Dont let him out i the cold cause he has no feathers[must]
Bring snacks and toys
Pack a bigger cage cause i think he will comlain in a tiny cage
Casey's Mom
I would bring his favourite toys and treats to keep him entertained for the ride. How long is the car ride going to be? Getting him used to the carrier is a good idea. Will you be staying overnight?

Casey's longest car ride was about an hour, she didn't want to play with anything but she did eat a few things from my hands. She did better out of the carrier and loved watching the cars go by. smile.gif

Good luck and have fun! smile.gif Others should have some other ideas. smile.gif

If the bird lives to be in a carrier... keep it in a carrier! I wish I could get my Quaker to like carriers, but it likes to perch itself on car seats. Always carry food and a toy whenever you take your bird to a long distance trip! You never know what can happen... My car broke down last semester while I was en route to school from home at the end of the weekend... a 4 hour trip... and had my Budgie with me. I ended up boarding at a hotel that doesn't allow pets for a night and had to sneak her in with no food (though I tried to feed her peanuts). It was one of the worst nights I've experienced.

Since I am in the Army and have lived from the east coast to the west coast Morgan is quite the traveler. Just make sure you take things that your fid knows and is comfortable with. If we let him out of his travel cage while traveling make we make sure you not to open the windows (I believe someone on here lost a bird like that).

Traveling with your bird is fun! Although someone else said their bird likes to watch the cars go by, we found Kirby did much better covered, except for the front of the cover being opened so he could see us. Things whizzing by freaked him out and he screeched. But covered, he entertained us by talking for seven hours straight! Once we arrived at our destination, we tried to maintain his sleep schedule just like at home. He was a delight! Have fun on your trip!

Thanks for all the great advice! Our trip is only about 2 hours.
I will see how it goes and what he likes, my last bird loved to travel
on my lap or shoulder, but I am going to start Buddy out in the cage to
be safe. We will be going up at night, so I plan on covering him for the trip.
We are staying 3 days so I hope it will not be too traumatic for him.
I am planning on all his fav's plus his table top playpen.
Thanks again,

PS - I cannot even imagine losing a pet out the window of a moving vehicle.

That sounds good. I have never took birds on vacation with me i know it is a hassle. You'll be fine.
