and the news is good! All of her values are normal except her cholesterol, which is through the roof! The vet says it is a result of hypothyroidism, which is totally treatable! She also said that it is most likely the cause of her feather picking, and she has treated a lot of feather pickers with hypothyroidism
The vomiting and diarrhea is the result of a bacterial infection or possibly a fungal infection, so we are continuing the antibiotics until next monday. If she isn't better, we will switch to an antifungal treatment.
HOORAY!!! What a weight lifted off my shoulders...I am so releived!!!

YAY!

That's great news, Tara!
Hopefully it will end up being a good thing and the plucking will be cured too!

I know a Greyhound with a thyroid problem and she just get meds everyday... is that the same for a parrot or is it a one-time treatable thing?

It is great news...she will probably need daily meds, but thats ok. I'm not getting my hopes up, but if we could get her plucking under control that would be fantastic! If anyone remembers when I first got her she stopped plucking and was letting all her feathers grow back, but then about 3 months ago she suddenly pulled em all out again so I have a feeling it might be related.
We'll see...now if I could just get her to take her through this darn infection!

Whew that could be good news, that you've found a possible cause for the pluking and why she's not well

I would be soooo happy for you if you could get her plucking under control with some simple medication. So hard to get a grip on that one. And nice to hear the other problem is easily treatable too. Tequilla should be like a new bird when you're done.
