Dang, I am all cooped up like the birds for th 6th week tomorrow. Sometimes, they talk WAY TOO MUCH! lol!
I was lying on the couch yesterday afternoon, and had Poppy and Maddie on their own cage tops across the room from each other. It started with an innocent laugh from Maddie. Of course Pops, not to be outdone, chimed in laughing too, saying "you're so funny". Then, it was "watcha doing?" back and forth... then peekaboo, then wanna take a bath, and on and on. They had to say every word they knew, and make every sound they could, including Maddie's favorite of a beverage can opening.
After 45 minutes or so (it gets so loud and busy, you can hardly hear what they are saying trying to out talk each other)I packed it up and went in the bedroom. They didn't stop... but I could at least hear the TV!
I guess it is a 'be careful what you wish for' deal! I wanted them to talk, but...!
I will be here a while longer. Bone scan came back good, though I do have 2 broken ribs. Also, now they think I have rotator cuff damage too and if so, surgery is in my future. This is dragging on a bit too long. I need to get back to work!
I picked up "Guide to the Quaker Parrot" today finally. That should keep me occupied for an evening!

hi Lisa, hope you're up and around in no time. The pic is so cute. You said they were on their tops of their cages across the room? Forgive me, I'm learning here, but they don't get off the top and wander? just wondering. I've ordered the "Guide to the Quaker Parrot" it will be here next week. My QP in 3 (hopefully) Gail

Awww, little chatter boxes!

There are days when Casey gets like that too!

I know what you mean "be careful what you wish for!"

Gail, they don't really go anywhere. Some need to be taught they have to stay up there, others just know. Casey will sit on top of her cage basically all day. The only time she is off is when she is with me somewhere in the house or if something spooks her and she flutters off by accident.

Hope you're feeling better soon Lisa!

They both stay on Poppy's cage, and Maddie stays on her own-but Poppy will climb down off Maddie's cage and wander around for a bit before climbing back up.
When Poppy was young, he used to flutter to the floor if I left the room, but just consistently putting him back up solved that. On Maddie's cage though- he knows he can climb right back up. Sometimes he drops things off just to climb down and retrieve them.
Yep, they're spoiled. They are pretty much on top of the cages all day. Once in awhile, they get agitated and I put them in their cages for an hour or so to calm them. Seems to work.
Maddie is slowly showing some trust. Poppy always wants picked up if I am close, and now Maddie is coming to the edge of the cage to be picked up too. She still cowers, but I can tell she loves me!
I am feeling much better! Just bored...

Gabby stays on her cage all day...It just took consistently putting her back on top of her cage, and telling her to stay there, and she learned...sometimes she gets spooked and will fly down..usually it's one of the dogs barking suddenly....
Right now, she's frantically tearing her adding machine paper to little shreds..ALL OVER THE FLOOR!!! LOL!!!
When I lie down for a nap, I tell gabby, 'Momma's gonna lie down" then we go into my room (this doesn't happen but every couple of weeks..the nap, I mean.LOL!!!) but I tell her shhhhhh, momma's gonna go nite nite. and she gets very quiet...she doesn't seem to sleep but just sits there...if she talks, it's in a low voice..LOL!!!
I hope you get to feeling better and able to go back to work soon...I NEVER get bored..but I LOVE being home..It's just in my genes...

Boy do I understand! Four weeks off and I feel like I am losing my mind. Thank goodness my surgery was done today and hopefully 1-2 weeks and I get to go back.
I sure hope its not rotator, had that done 5 years ago. Although I will admit once the surgery was done no problem but keep in mind what my doctor told me. Surgery on that is a fix not a solution. They repair it but once you have done it it's easy for it to re-tear. I know one lady that has had it done 3 times on left shoulder and 2 times on right.
Good luck with your chatterboxes, isn't it amazing how once they learn they don't stop. Rocky (CAG) we just got and he is already picking up some of Angel's phrases (and he is 2 rooms away!) But its so funny to hear one laugh and the other one start laughing, its like stereo.

Hope you are feeling better soon. I know what you mean about noise - sometimes Shah just talks and talks and talks and it gets so loud that my ears ring. If I have the television on I have to turn it up so loud that I think the whole street can hear it. I bet they just love having you around! As I said in a previous post, quakers make lousy nurses.

It's funny listening to Maddie. I have no idea if some of her phrases came from her last home, or if she really picked them up that quick from Poppy and I... but they say a lot of the same things. If she picked them up from us, she sure learned quick!
Every time I walk in the room with any type of drink, she makes the 'pop top' noise... makes me laugh every time. I once heard a CAG do that, and she also makes this whistling noise that sounds like a CAG too, so I suspect she was with one in her former home.

cricket is just starting to talk. right now he just repeats the same 5 phrases and sounds over and over again. he's not very loud when he talks though. i'm sure having two quakers to talk back and forth to each other gives them inspiration! just like 2 kids wanting to get the last word in lol
cricket only talks first thing in the morning (which i've noticed on weekends) but he doesn't say much when i'm home for work in the evenings. maybe he's too tired from talking to himself all day?

I have heard that is a common 'talk time', first thing in the morning or in the evening. My fids are off- it seems always to be early afternoon when they get going.
Also, they don't talk human speech when they are playing together. They only talk when they are in/on their own cages.
Yep, they get on some phrase and won't let go. Yesterday, the game was how many variations can be put on peekaboo!
I've also read they seem to pick up on things better when they are near your face. I don't know about that, but if I am holding Poppy close to my mouth, he will usually repeat or talk then. so cute!

i did notice that when cricket sits on my shoulder and i'm talking to him that he stares intently at my lips and even nibbles at them! that's pretty cool knowing that!
