well.. as you all know ive had my petey for about 3 months now.. which makes him 5 months old.. and im wanting another one... im fixing to have to get a job, as my little girl is starting school.. .and petey will be here all alone every day.. so i was wanting to get him a friend.so they can entertain each other during the day. petey is used to bieng out of his cage most of the day.. but i figure he will be less bored with another little guy to hang out with... then i worry that if i get another baby, they wont get along.... which would be a disaster...
anyway, i found a blue one for 200.00... the ad says "2 quakers to hand feed, one green 75.00 and one blue 200.00"
so, does this mean that these birds are just tiny little things? like not even weaned yet.. because i dont have any hand feeding experience, and from the prices, it sounds like they are tiny.. what is involved with hand feeding? i guess i should look it up... huh.gif

Sometimes they wont get along but they will entertain each other from their cages noises etc. Dont count on them playing with each other butthey will entertain.

MBS strikes Again!! laugh.gif laugh.gif

Where you find blues for $200??!! blink.gif

It sounds like seller will sell them before they are weaned -- not a good idea for someone without handfeeding experience.

Good luck on adding another LGC to your flock! smile.gif

Yah 200 is very cheap, Thats probably the cheapest you will be able to get it. I got mine as a gift.

Your post looks so much like mine did several months ago!
I was advised: Don't get a pet for your pet. Everything that was said made sense- it was my guilt making me want another bird. So... I decided to put it in the hands of fate.
About a month or six weeks after I had settled to NOT actively seek a pet for Poppy, Petco called me with a free rescue Quaker. That was enough- that was my sign.
I got lucky. Poppy and Maddie love each other. I do feel far less guilty leaving him, and he is still my boy, and I think the bond is now healthier.
Like everyone told me, there is a down side too. Double the noise, triple the mess (Maddie is a messy bird) and double the space. More expensive, vet visits, toys, food etc...boarding is even more expensive.
I think it worked out well for me and Poppy. But had I sought out a companion, it probably wouldn't have been such a good fit. I have been fortunate all the way around. Poppy now has a healthier bond with me and Maddie is just starting to come around and want to be held.
It is your decision. All I can add is there is a possibility you could lose your bond with Petey or the two could hate each other. If you get lucky, the new blue bird will fit right in to your family!
Good luck on whatever you decide!
MBS is NO MYTH!!!!

Please do not get this bird if you don't have experience with handfeeding. Trust me, you do NOT want the stress associated with it. It really is best to let the breeder finish the handfeeding and purchase a fully weaned bird. While more expensive, it could save you oodles in the long run.

As for adding another bird, are you planning on caging them together? If so, you might want to reconsider. First off, you take the risk of the two birds not getting along, which means you've just defeated the purpose in getting another bird. Secondly, what happens if they decide they like each other way more than they like you? Then you've lost the pet quality in your birds.

My suggestion? Hold off for now. So long as you have a TV or radio on for background noise, your bird will do just fine on his own. They really do not need another bird to keep them occupied...that is why they have toys smile.gif

yeah.. i was very scared about the handfeeding.. but i still havent gotten ahold of the lady to see exactly how old he is...
i wasnt planning on caging them together. i dont want to take the chance of losing petey as a buddy.. he doesnt really play with his toys... hes a little oddball...

Can I butt in and steal this thread for a second? I once heard that very young quakers have something on their bill that enables the parents to grab the their bills easier and feed them? Is that true? And if so, how long do they have this (until what age)?

(also wants a new buddy for her Sioux and also mainly waiting to see which bird will just one day cross my path and be needing a home; I find I have only about 5 to 10% of "bird" left after losing 50%)

well... i have taken it as a sign... ive tried to call the lady with the blue quaker about 4 times, and so far nobody has picked up the phone... so i will end my hunt... and wait for one to just happen by...ill know when its time to get another... if ever.

I'll bet one comes your way... by chance!
