I have not been to the site for quite a while. My quaker and I have been doing great. He is so sweet. He was found in a park by a friend 2 years ago. She tried to find his owner but wasn't able to. She couldn't keep him so I took him. In the last two years we have bedcome good friends. He seems happy. He plays with his toys, arranging his cage when I am gone at work. When I get home he spends his time with my husband or I. My husband has been working out of town this summer. I am going to visit him for a week. I was at a nursery/feed/pet store inquiring if they new someone who would board birds. They are great people who are more than willing to help with any questions. they will happily clip wings. They said they would be happy to keep my bird. I was thrilled. I got home and there was Reep without a tail! I was amazed. So, now I am wondering what these kind people will think. I am sure they will think that I am a bad bird mama. Anyway, will his tail grow back? What could have caused him to do that. He pulls on it quite often but I thought it was just him grooming himself.
Any ideas?

Has he had a good molt yet....And yes, his tail feathers will grow back.....

When Harley had his first good molt (tail feathers, wing feathers and more feathers.), I made a feathered tree with his and framed it....And still have feathers.... blink.gif

But don't worry, he will get his beautiful long tail back.... smile.gif And yes, it is great that you have someone you can depend on to keep Reep for you....Let us know how things go...It will probably take about 2 or 3 weeks to get his tail feathers back....

Thanks for your help. He has lost feathers on his head and then gotten new ones. Occasionally I will find bigger feathers around, but never tail feathers. Maybe it is just a molt. I would feel so much better if that were it. He looks pretty pitiful right now. I have a bag of feathers. I can't throw them away when I pick them up. They are so pretty.

Yes, the feathers are too pretty to throw away, that is why I still have so many of them...Harley isn't molting now...Sometimes he loses the down feathers but I don't save them....lol......

Try making something with Reep feathers....Did you see what I put together with Harley's feathers.....

No, I haven't seen it. I would love to. They are such a beautiful color. I keep thinking I will find something creative or clever to do with them. Maybe I just need some inspiration...

I thought I had a better picture of it somewhere but couldn't find it. But you get the idea.....

Wow Julie,

That is a really great idea ohmy.gif)

I took one of Yogi's feathers to a member of our parrot club. She and her husband are both amazing photographers'. She is going to clean up the feather, and then blow it up for me.

I am so excited.. I can't wait to see it ohmy.gif)

I love your idea of the feather tree though. When he goes through a molt, I might try to do something like that.

Happy to hear I'm not the only one that can't bear to part with dropped feathers lol.

It is lovely. What a great idea. I will have to spend some time thinking about it. I quilt and do a bit of sewing, it would be interesting to find a way of using them in a fabric art project. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks Sandy and Deb....And Deb when you get your feather back, I would love to see what was done with it.....

I'll be sure to attach the finished product to a post Julie.
I'm really excited about it. The pictures Jenn brought to the meeting were stunning.

I just hope when I show it here, that is looks as good as the final product smile.gif

Jenn said she would email me a sample of it before framing, so maybe I'll put that up. That should show better smile.gif

Again, thanks for sharing your great idea of the feather tree. It's awesome!
