I was told by the store where I bought roudybush pellets...that that was the only thing i ever needed to feed riley....i know thats not true...it is good to give them a good variety diet. also i have read on other sites that some bird owners like to make birdy bread??? just thought id ask to see if anyone does and if their birds like it??
I am also wondering about those berry treats i think you get from the pet store that everyone is talking about, im trying to find some good treats for him and also as a training treat for riley...

there are alot of treats you can make or buy
I know mine like the nutriberries that have mango in them

If you like to cook there are recipes you can make for your bird too birdie bread being one of them. Some of the recipes make huge batches tho so if you just have the one bird you can freeze a portion of it for later or just divide the recipe in half etc to make smaller batches.

You can also be creative and invent your own recipes too.

mine like to have a birdie omelete once a week its basically just eggs with a bunch of veggies tossed in.

Always remember never to give your fid hot food allow it to cool down before giving it to them.

hello

that was the name i was trying to remember...nutriberries...i will go look for these at petsmart...i think cooking and baking for your bird would be fun and a great way for the kids to be really involved with riley...they love to play and hold him...but making recipes would just enhance everything..

thank you so much

This is what I make...but if you only have one or two birds then I would cut the recipe in half...my birds love this smile.gif

Birdie Cornbread
2 packages Jiffy mix cornbread
4 eggs w/ crushed egg shells..I find 2 shells is plenty
2/3 cup milk..don't worry this is fine after cooking
1 cup pellets your choice
1 cup apple juice..no sugar added
1 cup frozen veggies
1 cup frozen corn
Mix all ingred. bake at 400 degrees for 20 to 30 mintues give or take..just keep checking with toothpick for doneness.

I put this in a large cassarole dish and bake..let it cool completely then cut into small squares...then lay out(single layer) on a cooky sheet and freeze..after it is frozen then transfer to ziplock baggy..by doing this they won't all stick together...also you can cut this recipe in half..

I have also used applesauce instead of apple juice..if its too thick add water until right consistancy...Hope your birdies enjoy..smile.gif

Carole, we have a list somewhere on here (I'm at work so don't have access to my favorites) of listings for free samples. Laferber's is on that list. If you call them, and ask for some samples, they will send you a box FULL of cool stuff (nutriberries being among them).

Maybe someone else can post that list?

If im corerect nutriberries can be main diest ,like pellets they are healthy for them harvest bites are very similar but arent AS healthy

I make birdie bread about once a week. I use the Jiffy cornbread mix and just add whatever I have on hand: beans, rice, oats, veggies, fruit, pumpkin mix, a little seed, pellets, eggs and shells, spinach, whatever. I don't think I've ever made the same batch twice!!! smile.gif Just follow the directions on the box and add a few minutes to the baking time because fruits, veggies, etc all contain more water and take longer to bake.

Well....lol That's what Laferber says, but I wouldn't feed Nutriberries as a main part of my Quaker's diet. They are mostly seeds, which can be quite high in fat. Plus, they are expensive!! LOL
