I took billy to the vet about six months ago cuz he was sneezing alot, the vet said he was sick gave me a bunch of stuff to give him and made sure that I kept a heat lamp on him 24/7. After the medication was over he seemed to be doing better but he kept sneezing. I have started feeding him better food(oatmeal, fruit, veggies, basically whatever I'm eating as long as it's not starchy) and putting stuff the vet gave me in his water. I think the sneezing might be an allergy or somthing becuase it's a dry sneeze.

Now if that hasn't confused you yet than here is the other thing, it seems like his butt or rearend or whatever you want to call it is bloated or saggy or somthing? Do you guys have any idea what I am talking about?? If so any help would be great.

I think its time you take him back to the vet and have him take a closer look...and point out what you're noticing...

I agree with connie take him back to the vet and have him checked out again. It is possible for a bird to have an allergy to something. Birds will sneeze sometimes but its not constant sneezing. My other question is do you know if your bird is male or female? I would discuss your birds dietary needs with the vet as well.

I don't want to sound like an echo or anything but please take him back to the vet. Make sure you keep us updated.

maybe he/she is giving himself a prolapse or something from all of the sneezing.
do birds have those? i know other animals do, and it can be fixed...

With the rear end looking puffy, kind of sounds like egg-bound. But I'd have a hard time thinking that has anything to do with the sneezing.

I agree..could be prolapse (although I doubt a bird could sneeze hard enough to prolapse, there have been stranger things!) or eggbinding among other things. Is he plucking the area? It's impossible to tell without seeing the bird, I'd def. get him to an avian vet if your are concerned...

Could also be an abscess in the belly; might explain the sneezing (in terms of infections taking over), but I think that that is rare. Do keep us posted about Billy, please, and do take him back to the vet (if need be, a different vet).

I was planning on taking him to the vet but now I guess I have to . The stuff I was putting in his water is "proboitic" (i think thats how you spell it??).

Anyways I'll let you guys know what happens.

I mean he's survived my uncle and me, between us he's spent the night in Montana outside, been knocked out with a T.V. remote , come home in the neighbors cats mouth , and almost sold at a yardsale on accedent!

Billy Died I don't even know what to say.


The vet said he had a tumor and that there was nothing that I could do for him, he also said that I had taken great care of him while he was sick and that most birds with a tumor like Billys usually come in without there breast meat and and there bones prodruding. Billy was still eating right before I took him, the vet said that the reason he was acting so healthy was becuase I give him so much attention.


Well I am kind of numb I don't really know what to do, I'm glad he died in my moms arms and that he died peacefully, I kept him in my room and he would come out and say hi whenever I got home from school.

I guess since billy is gone I will close my account here, I don't think that I will be getting another bird I'm sixteen so maybe when I am older I will think about it. For now if you see some long blond haired thin kid walking around at the beach and staring into space then thats me.

Well so long buys I might come back on and post a picture. I am going to go bury him at my Uncles ranch since thats were he started out.

Oh, I am so so so sorry for your loss. It sounds like you were a great parront and Billy was lucky to have you. You don't have to leave the forum, but I understand if you need to.

I am so sorry for your loss. I can tell from your post you really loved billy alot and I also know you were a good caregiver and billy in turn loved you alot too. Sometimes for whatever reason things do happen and I know how it takes a piece of ones heart. I really hope you just take a break from the forums if coming here makes you think of billy and when you are ready come back and post a memorial about billy and stick around because you have many friends here. There is no rule that you have to have a bird to be a member and you are a friend to quakers all the same.

I'll go to the shore tomorrow morning and will look for you ("virtually" so to speak) and if I don't see you, I'll tell one of the gulls here to fly to you and tell you hi so you'll know you're not alone on that beach.
